  • VITAL TOOL for ALL Writers, Editors, Publishers

I’ve been a writer for 20 years, an editor for 15 years and a professional publisher for 13 years. I'm always striving to learn more and better myself in my perspective, understanding and needs of others in my line of work. But for many people who’ve been at it as long as I have, and are not in school, it’s easy to think you’ve learned it all and to switch into autopilot mode when working with others in your field or creating your own works. You just want to get the job done. But that doesn’t wo... more

  • Much-Needed, Nuanced Examination of the World of Sensitivity Readers

This is a great podcast if you've heard the phrase sensitivity reader but still aren't quite sure what it means. It's also for those who think the world doesn't NEED sensitivity readers, or that sensitivity readers may in some way be detrimental to the purpose of the creation. more

  • Informative and needed

This podcast helped me to better understand what sensitivity reading is. I didn’t know much about the topic and after the first episode I feel like I have a real understanding of what it is and why it’s needed. I look forward to the diverse topics that the host talked about for further episodes. Thank you for making this podcast available! I think that everyone can find something in this podcast and I’m excited to watch it grow.

  • A Must-Listen for Writers

This thoughtful, nuanced podcast hosts conversations I haven’t heard (or read) anywhere else. Some of my writer colleagues talk to each other like this, but it tends to stay there and certainly not make its way online. Sydney’s discussing complicated issues of identities, representation, and the difficulties of getting these onto the page—and exploring ways it’s possible to achieve this. In their second episode, their conversation with Tab addressed how unlikely it is to see a character who’s “q... more

  • Great for writers

So you want your work to represent a more inclusive, diverse (real) world but how do you represent identities you haven’t experienced? First, do your research, but that’s still not lived experience. Next, consult a sensitivity reader who does live that reality...and pay them. This podcast is a great first free resource but it won’t replace working directly with a professional consultant who, like you, deserves to be paid for their time. Looking forward to learning a lot from this podcast.

  • Important addition to the literary conversation

This excellent podcast is an important and needed addition to the conversation about the literary landscape, publishing and writing diversity well and authentically, and increasing visibility about and for marginalized identities. I learned a ton about sensitivity reading, what it does and why it matters, and why we all should be paying attention.
