  • Eye-Opening and Supportive

This podcast really opened up my eyes to how I can show up differently in romantic relationships. I started listening to it when I was trying to save my last relationship, and immediately saw my own patterns and my partner’s patterns. If you want to find new ways to connect deeply with your partner, listen to all seasons of this podcast from start to finish. You will likely see yourself in one of the couples. For bonus work, read Julie’s book, Secure Love.

  • Just what I needed

I have felt lost for a while and Julie’s podcast has really been helping me sort out things that have been difficult for me for decades.

I encourage anyone who may listen to this podcast to listen without comparing every little detail in their own life. The questions being asked and the strategies being implemented are really what I take away from it. Of course I am not exactly Melissa, but I have learned so much about myself by just letting things hit me when they are similar. If you feel any... more

  • This is my favorite podcast

Anyone thinking of or currently in couples therapy should try this podcast. I also think it’s helpful as an individual, if you’re exploring your own attachment style and figuring out what behaviors don’t serve you anymore. I had been following social media, but found this podcast a few months after my spouse ended our marriage of 5 years, relationship of 11. We’d had couples therapy for probably 20 sessions across the year prior, featuring Gottman handouts and CBT, but we never did EFT like this... more

  • Just keep learning

2 seasons in and I’ve had so many insights and moments of resonance from this podcast. What a gift, to all of us siloed in our own negative cycles, to understand how common and how human they are. And then to get real actionable guidance on how to do the work. Thank you Julie and team 🙏

S3 | Session 10: Why It Feels So Hard to Ask Your Partner for Help
Q: How do I help her anger while still validating my own feelings?
Validate her anger as a signal of hurt and need, while also naming your own fears and boundaries; regulate your own nervous system so you can stay present and offer empathy without getting overwhelmed.
S3 | Session 10: Why It Feels So Hard to Ask Your Partner for Help
Q: Hey Julie, recovering avoidant here. Can you give us an example of what validating the anxious partner's anger would look like in the moment?
Validate by acknowledging the validity of the anger and its meaning for safety, while not taking on blame; reflect the emotion and offer consistent support to stay present with their experience.
S3 | Session 11: You Can't Problem Solve Your Way Out of Pain
Q: One thing I see missing often is what to do after the validation. Validation and understanding triggers are important, but where are the practical solutions?
The host explains that validation and understanding are skills in themselves and that real work involves slowly sitting with the pain, identifying the underlying fear, and then coordinating steps to address the attachment needs, rather than rushing to solve the problem.
S3 | Session 5: What Does Your Fear Need?
Q: What is the core need Rachel's sadness is asking for, and how can Mike respond?
Validation of Rachel's feelings is identified as a primary need to counteract lifelong experiences of being told her pain didn't matter, with guidance for Mike to respond with patient acknowledgment and acceptance of mistrust while learning to support.
S3 | Session 1: Setting the TEMPO to Uncover Deep Wounds
Q: How do your moves in the cycle function as far as how they're trying to help your emotions?
Rachel explains that she's trying to get Mike to understand her needs and emotions through her responses.
