  • Uninspired, catered to male runners, terrible interviewing skills

As a female runner, I found a lot of the content to be really not geared towards considering that women are different in their hormonal needs, etc, and it felt quite ignorant in some comments. I also listened to the UTMB winners interview, and it sounds like the guys have never even researched or read even an article about ultra trail running. Their questions were also quite ignorant and repeated questions that the winners also already answered. In all, I have no idea why this has the ratings it... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Does running have a doping problem?
Q: What are your thoughts on the Enhanced Games and their approach to doping?
James and the hosts express concern that the Enhanced Games could normalize drug use and undermine sports ethics, while also debating safety and the message it sends to young athletes about performance enhancement.
Does running have a doping problem?
Q: Do you think running still has a doping problem and why is it hard to say?
The guest argues that running is part of a broader ecosystem where testing, funding, and competition pressures create a multi-layered problem; while there are high-profile cases and concerns about testing gaps, the sport is also actively trying to catch dopers, making it hard to quantify overall cheating.
Does running have a doping problem?
Q: Tell us a little bit about what motivated you to write Dope?
James Witts explains that his long-standing interest in doping, dating back to memories of the 1988 Seoul Olympics and ongoing features on cheating in sport, led him to create a state-of-play book that explores why athletes cheat and how anti-doping efforts have evolved, rather than presenting a simplistic good-vs-evil narrative.
Richard Whitehead talks getting faster with age and how he wants to inspire the next generation
Q: What does your training and recovery look like at 49 years old?
Richard explains a periodized approach with a strong support team, emphasizing recovery variety, testing, and nutrition, while staying focused on fundamentals and personalised energy management.
Hugo Fry: running a 2:17 marathon, a love of rice, 'runfluencing' and more
Q: Can we talk to you about Rice? You've been vocal about your love of that food stuff.
Rice is my go-to fueling because it digests well, is gluten-free, and sits well with most people; it supported a science-based approach during CIM and post-race nutrition, contrasting with pasta-heavy narratives. It remains a practical, reliable option rather than a marketing gimmick.
