  • Fabulous running podcast!

Solid five stars running podcast, full of brilliant tips and camaraderie. (Please get rid / significantly reduce the volume of the TradeCentreUK adverts: so loud and piercing - so unnecessary - and has made me want to avoid TCUK at all costs).

Thank you so much, Paula and Thommo. It is a privilege to tune into your show! X

  • Way too many ads

I was really excited to find this podcast, but gave up after 14 minutes when I got tired of listening to ads. Will try again in a few months to see if they change the format.

  • Glad your back

So glad you have decided to keep the podcast going beyond the marathon, it kept me company while I prepared for a 24hr event (endure24) which I managed 13 laps 65 miles. Keep up the good work.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Paula's Run Club:The Shakeout Episode 30
Q: Should I race a 20-mile event nine weeks out to gain confidence and fitness?
Yes, a 20-mile race can be beneficial for confidence and marathon-specific pacing, provided you feel gut-ready and the race is used to reinforce race effort rather than chase an exact marathon pace; trust your gut and ensure psychological and physical readiness.
Paula's Run Club:The Shakeout episode 30
Q: Is it better to race a 20-mile event as a build-up race to boost confidence or skip it?
Definitely consider the 20-mile race as a confidence builder and a way to gauge how you feel and what pace you can sustain, nine weeks out is reasonable if it fits your plan.
Paula's Run Club:The Shakeout episode 30
Q: What should Simon do about training post-Tokyo with six weeks before London?
Focus on a two-week easy phase, then a three-week build toward a long run, listen to how you feel, and taper appropriately rather than chasing another long distance too soon.
Running Around The World: Dawna Stone
Q: What do you think is driving the current running boom and the growth of the majors?
The guest suggests a combination of experiential motivation, travel, community, and a desire for personal achievement; younger generations seek experiences and cultural exploration, which dovetails with marathon majors as global, purpose-driven events.
Master your Mindset: Olympic bronze Medallist Deena Kastor
Q: How did Athens shape your mindset for later races like Beijing?
Athens gave her a confidence boost and a tougher, more nuanced understanding of racing, which she carried into Beijing despite injuries and fear of the heat.
