  • Sugarless gels

Hi Paula and Tomo - Great podcast, I listen to it all the time on my runs! Regarding the listener who was for advice on sugarless nutrition for marathons, there is a brand of gel quite popular now called UCAN that does not contain sugar. Its whole premise is that it uses a slow release super starch that fuels you for longer without the blood sugar spikes that accompanies traditional gels. Elite athletes like Dakotah Popehn, Sara Hall, and Meb Keflezighi use it. You should check it out! Happy run... more

  • Fabulous running podcast!

Solid five stars running podcast, full of brilliant tips and camaraderie. (Please get rid / significantly reduce the volume of the TradeCentreUK adverts: so loud and piercing - so unnecessary - and has made me want to avoid TCUK at all costs).

Thank you so much, Paula and Thommo. It is a privilege to tune into your show! X

  • Way too many ads

I was really excited to find this podcast, but gave up after 14 minutes when I got tired of listening to ads. Will try again in a few months to see if they change the format.

BONUS EPISODE! London Marathon's Hugh Brasher Answers Your Questions on "The Double"
Q: How will the two days be split between elites, good-for-age, and championships?
The plan has the elite and championship fields leading one race and the good-for-age and wheelchair categories leading the other, with the specific day assignment to be announced before the entry systems open.
Paula's Run Club: The Shakeout Episode 52
Q: Laura, I have a question surrounding my running form. I completed London Marathon in a PB of 3 hours and 4 minutes, and would like to aim for sub 3. My cadence is around 200. Do you think this will significantly affect my times and is there anything I can do to improve it? Were you ever advised to change your form drastically and was it successful?
Paula and Thommo emphasize that a high cadence around 200 is already efficient for endurance. The practical focus should be on maintaining cadence and slightly lengthening stride, plus strength training (especially glute and core) rather than drastic form changes. Minimal form changes are advised unless injury risk dictates otherwise; fatigue tends to revert form to what the body naturally does, so consistency and conditioning are key.
Am I a Runner? With CBeebies star Evie Pickerill
Q: And how was it afterwards? Was it sore?
She describes the marathon as emotionally overwhelming, acknowledges the knee issue during training, but emphasizes the support from crowds and the fulfillment of finishing for a worthy cause.
Am I a Runner? With CBeebies star Evie Pickerill
Q: So should we start off first of all with the story of how you got into the London Marathon because it's linked to the ambassador role?
Evie explains that she became an ambassador for Children with Cancer UK about three years ago after being approached at a gala; she decided to take on the marathon as a meaningful way to support the charity and learn more about fundraising.
Paula’s Run Club: The Shakeout Episode 48.
Q: Is it okay to split some runs into two during peak training weeks?
Yes, splitting long runs into two sessions can help with volume while maintaining quality, provided hydration and fueling are managed between runs and overall weekly load remains sensible.
