Hi, we’re Deb Perelman (Smitten Kitchen) and J. Kenji López-Alt (Serious Eats, The Food Lab, The Wok). We’re professional home cooks, which means we can - and will - make the same meal 57 times in a row on the quest for the perfect recipe. Is it crazy? For us, no, because we do this for a living. But for you? Yes, probably. Which is why you should listen to The Recipe with Kenji and Deb. You'll he... more

News to us at Radiotopia, but there are some of you out there who have some really strong feelings about grilled cheese, almost enough for a whole separate podcast. What is it about this seemingly mellow, humble sandwich — a favorite of both small ch... more
Some people think tomato soup only exists to serve as a dipping sauce for grilled cheese, but Kenji and Deb are here to set them straight. A properly, lovingly made tomato soup — even with sad-looking supermarket tomatoes from February — can be a tim... more
In preparation for this episode, Deb and Kenji fed their children so many pancakes that they are now on a pancake strike. But before you start feeling sorry for these young people, don’t forget they got to taste the rainbow of pancake styles. Tall an... more
Kenji and Deb have history with meatloaf that goes way, way back, to summer camp in the 80s. It was not love at first taste, but Deb has a moment of clarity and achieves meatloaf enlightenment. Kenji and Deb chew over “meat batter”, how many Meat Loa... more

I was so excited for this podcast! I’ve read Smitten Kitchen from the beginning, have her books, have also read Kenji’s and love his Seattle suggestions on Instagram, even saw them together in Seattle for Deb’s book tour so I thought I would be the ideal listener but somehow I haven’t been able to finish any of the episodes. In the spirit of The Recipe, maybe it just needs some tweaks—shorter, less “inside baseball,” maybe have actual home cooks make each recipe that Kenji and Deb explain any is... more
I have followed Deb and Kenji for years. This dream team delivers delightful fun and insights on food I crave and care about. Keep up the great work!
Kenji and Deb taught me how to cook - I’ve followed both since I was a teen! Super neat to hear their thoughts on recipe development and all the wisdom that comes from combined decades of experience. I’ve since made Deb’s mac and cheese at least three times since the first episode! Obsessed.
Two of my favourite food ppl combining their amazingness to bless us all with a podcast? Yes please. Kenji and Deb are so down to earth and fun to listen to. I could listen to them all day long.
I’ve learned more about cooking from Kenji than from any other person in the world, so obviously I’m biased, but this is fantastic. The match up with Kenji and Deb is great, they have an easy and fun rapport. And, of course, you’re going to learn a bunch in a short amount of time.
