  • Pete Buttigieg

I’m enjoying Nick’s interview style. At first I was annoyed he didn’t press Pete harder on spending cuts and entitlements. But then I realized but letting him talk about minute changes that will do nothing, it’s even more obvious that he has no ideas how to deal with the deficit.

Keep up the good work Nick. Like how you let them express themselves and ask simple guard rail questions to help tease out the lack of serious policies.

  • Disappointingly Weak

Authoritarian autocracy on the rise with in-your-face corruption and unconstitutionality on proud display, and the voice of the “don’t tread on me” ethos gives us… stadium funding? Seems to me Reason was more exercised about the Covid lockdowns than they are about the armed occupation of American cities. Looks to me like Libertarianism needs to rediscover its anti-authoritarian roots.

  • Reason - Interrupted

Nick is grating on both this podcast and the Reason Roundtable for his constant interruptions and over-talk. The Ken Burns interview was painful to listen to, up to the point Ken even told Nick to please let him answer the question.

  • Episode with Katie

Most of the time I enjoy Nick’s interviews. Some subjects are more interesting than others so I don’t always finish them. But Nick is a great interviewer. I also subscribe to Blocked and Reported and love Katie, so I have heard several discussions about her book. Sorry Katie, I haven’t bought it yet. When I first saw that was Nick’s interview today I almost skipped it. I listened on my slow traffic drive home and it was really good and kept my interest. Nick asks great questions and brought out... more

  • Done With It

Nick spent the majority of this interview licking Ben Wizner and the ACLU’s free speech bona fides. You know what never came up? An ACLU bigwig saying “stopping the circulation of this book and these ideas is 100% a hill I will die on”. He’s become Lesley Stahl in a leather jacket. So lame.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Rand Paul: Congress Is 'Afraid of the President'
Q: Why do you think tariffs are a bad idea?
Tariffs rely on fallacious framing about being ripped off by other countries and ignore the benefits of voluntary exchange; they also distort prices for consumers, hurt employment in certain sectors, and undermine long-term wealth by provoking retaliation, even if some constituencies feel temporary gains. The real issue is to focus on actual economic realities, competition, and the rule of law rather than punitive protectionism.
Jonah Goldberg: The GOP Is Becoming Anti-Conservative
Q: What do you think about JD Vance and his position within MAGA?
He views Vance as a prominent but problematic figure who embodies a blend of populist instincts and post-liberal ideas, cautioning that his stance reflects broader coalition dynamics rather than deep conservative principles.
Can Iran's Protest Movement Topple the Regime?
Q: How do you maintain integrity under all these different pressures?
Fardad detailed the challenges they face with various stakeholders and how they strive for impartiality in their reporting, despite the risks.
Can Iran's Protest Movement Topple the Regime?
Q: Can you talk a little bit more about Reza Pahlavi?
Fardad described Reza Pahlavi as a significant opposition figure who has called for protests and is seen by many as a potential leader for transition in Iran.
Pete Buttigieg: Federal Agents Are Losing Public Trust
Q: So first up, are you running for president?
I'm a long way from any kind of decision like that. But I do know that as somebody who has a level of national visibility and really cares about the issues going on in the country, that I should be speaking out, traveling, trying to reach different kinds of audiences.
