  • Interviewer who states opinions rather than asks questions

To be fair I only listened to the Helen gardener episode. Did not let her finish a sentence constantly interrupted and stated his opinions framed as questions.

  • Pete Buttigieg

I’m enjoying Nick’s interview style. At first I was annoyed he didn’t press Pete harder on spending cuts and entitlements. But then I realized but letting him talk about minute changes that will do nothing, it’s even more obvious that he has no ideas how to deal with the deficit.

Keep up the good work Nick. Like how you let them express themselves and ask simple guard rail questions to help tease out the lack of serious policies.

  • Disappointingly Weak

Authoritarian autocracy on the rise with in-your-face corruption and unconstitutionality on proud display, and the voice of the “don’t tread on me” ethos gives us… stadium funding? Seems to me Reason was more exercised about the Covid lockdowns than they are about the armed occupation of American cities. Looks to me like Libertarianism needs to rediscover its anti-authoritarian roots.

  • Reason - Interrupted

Nick is grating on both this podcast and the Reason Roundtable for his constant interruptions and over-talk. The Ken Burns interview was painful to listen to, up to the point Ken even told Nick to please let him answer the question.

  • Episode with Katie

Most of the time I enjoy Nick’s interviews. Some subjects are more interesting than others so I don’t always finish them. But Nick is a great interviewer. I also subscribe to Blocked and Reported and love Katie, so I have heard several discussions about her book. Sorry Katie, I haven’t bought it yet. When I first saw that was Nick’s interview today I almost skipped it. I listened on my slow traffic drive home and it was really good and kept my interest. Nick asks great questions and brought out... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Right Way To Fight a Trade War
Q: What should the next U.S. president do to follow the book's advice?
Be focused and fight the right trade war; avoid broad, indiscriminate tariffs and instead target areas where strategic leverage and national interests align, while maintaining a level of coordination with allies to prevent a total collision of national policies.
Why So Many People Feel Lost
Q: Let's start with the mattering instinct. Explain what that is.
Goldstein explains that mattering combines the noun and verb forms of matter, meaning being deserving of attention, rooted in normative terms and values, and tied to our evolved capacity for self-reflection that drives us to seek significance both for ourselves and in relation to others.
Marjorie Taylor Greene: 'You're Not Being Represented!'
Q: How has your view of Washington changed since leaving Congress?
Greene emphasizes a return to 'normal people' and a desire to explain politics in a practical, accessible way through Life With MTG, moving away from partisan dynamics.
Marjorie Taylor Greene: 'You're Not Being Represented!'
Q: What do you make of the rising tide of far-left policies among younger voters?
Greene frames it as a generational shift visible on both sides, driven by frustration with established leadership and the political status quo, and notes a parallel movement among Republicans who feel betrayed by the party.
Why Populism Leads to Decline
Q: What lessons can the U.S. learn from globalization and trade history?
Free trade and openness generally create long-run gains, but you must prevent protectionist coalitions from capturing policy and ensure that benefits diffuse broadly rather than concentrating in small, loud groups.
