  • Really pleasant libertarian podcast

Libertarian podcasts often sound like crazy people who just haven’t moved byeond knee-jerk hatred of the state. This podcast aint that. Its a good exploration of the deeper foundations of the best versions of all brands of classical liberalism

Justice as a Means to a Better Life-with Jim Valliant
Q: How does the objectivist view of justice differ from Kantian duty ethics?
Objectivism grounds justice in objective, universal principles tied to life and productive living, whereas Kantian ethics centers on rigid duties and universalizability, potentially opposing practical outcomes in real life.
Justice as a Means to a Better Life-with Jim Valliant
Q: What is the deontological view of justice, and how does it contrast with objectivism?
Deontological ethics focuses on duties and intentions regardless of consequences, but objectivism uses universal, life-promoting principles to evaluate actions and their effects on long-term flourishing.
Justice as a Means to a Better Life-with Jim Valliant
Q: What is pragmatism, and what is the pragmatic view of justice?
Pragmatism is described as unprincipled consequentialism that judges actions by their immediate outcomes and by what feels right in the moment, lacking a firm objective standard.
Discussing the Great and Neglected Economist, Richard Cantillon-with Gene Epstein
Q: What is the Cantillon Effect and why is it important today?
The Cantillon Effect describes how money entering the economy creates unequal income shifts, benefiting those who first receive the new money and influencing prices and demand; it's presented as an early insight into monetary transmission that resonates with modern macroeconomics and policy debates.
A Conversation with a Young Objectivist
Q: What are your main critiques of argumentation ethics as proposed by Hoppe and his followers?
The argumentation ethics framework relies on premises that are hard to justify universally and tends to misapply normative constraints, making the conclusion that one should never initiate conflict seem implausible given the broader ethical commitments.
