  • Wrong

Ideas, theories and thoughts should not end with the word”right”making the listener agree with you rather than letting one decide if something is right or wrong or needs more time to think. Stop ending your sentences with the word -right. You are not always right.

  • Ad nauseum

Great content and a great show, but the new ad inserts kill everything good about it. Nothing like trying to unwind and listen to a nice talk and then have someone randomly start screaming into your ears about airfare or whatever. The ad volume alone is like 40x the volume of the podcast. How dare you, Sean…

  • Adscape

The dynamic ads are making it virtually unbearable for me to listen to episodes. I no longer care for the AMAs; the solo episodes are not properly structured; and the main episodes are almost all book promotion, the host having almost never actually done his homework beforehand. Carroll doesn’t need my money and the quality doesn’t make it worth it to pay for the ad free version.

Mindscape Ask Me Anything, Sean Carroll | August 2026
Q: Do you think the many-worlds interpretation could ever be experimentally distinguished from other interpretations?
In principle, many-worlds is compatible with standard quantum predictions, and distinguishing interpretations experimentally is challenging; what matters is how the framework provides a coherent description of decoherence, the Born rule, and empirical adequacy, rather than unique testable predictions.
Mindscape Ask Me Anything, Sean Carroll | August 2026
Q: Could you explain the cyclic universe idea in simple terms?
In the cyclic model, the universe evolves through a finite set of energy eigenstates that rotate in a way that brings the system back to a similar state, producing a cyclic evolution of the cosmos without requiring infinite time, while remaining consistent with quantum mechanics and decoherence principles.
Mindscape Ask Me Anything, Sean Carroll | August 2026
Q: How do you view the Boltzmann brain problem in cosmology and its implications for scientific reasoning?
The Boltzmann brain problem challenges the reliability of reasoning if our observations are just randomly fluctuated; the way out is to assume we are ordinary observers and build cosmologies that align with data, avoiding epistemic dead ends by choosing models that preserve the reliability of scientific inference.
Mindscape Ask Me Anything, Sean Carroll | August 2026
Q: What do you think about LeBron joining the Sixers and what would that mean for the team?
I am optimistic and think he would be a perfect fit in terms of leadership and ball distribution, potentially elevating the team's ceiling given the mix of talent like Embiid, Brown, and Maxey. The main caveats are health and fit, but the potential upside is enormous if the roster learns to play together.
Mindscape Ask Me Anything, Sean Carroll | July 2026
Q: What is the role of mixed states in quantum mechanics, and could they affect how we think about the universe as a whole?
Sean explains mixed states as a broader, more flexible description than pure states when predicting experimental outcomes, especially in quantum systems with entanglement. He notes that entanglement makes a subsystem's state described by a density operator rather than a pure state, and discusses the idea that density operators might reflect a more fundamental aspect of quantum reality than classical mixtures. This ties into the broader conversation about whether the universe's state should be treated with density operators and how that affects notions like Boltzmann fluctuations and time's emergence.
