  • Is the show about science?

Because it seems to be more about politics and religion than actual astronomy. Also the last episode crying about Joe Rogan not believing in the moon landing made me start actually doubting NASA which is ironic since that was the opposite of what Keating intended.

  • So this guy just critiqued another guy and his argument was that some kinds of slavery are fine. Or perhaps he's referring to indentured servitude. Either way I'm not sure I would release a podcast explaining that is how you feel- you might want to keep that shit to yourself. If he has someone who cleans his house or a nanny or something, i hope they hear this podcast. His pompous delivery should suffice to let us know he thinks himself superior, no need to illustrate this by defending servitude... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dead Cows, Aliens, & Ghosts: How Kevin Knuth Connects Them All
Q: Are you comfortable with saying, I'm a physicist and I saw a ghost?
The guest responds by saying he cannot claim to have seen a ghost because he doesn't know what a ghost is, emphasizing caution and scientific restraint.
Intelligent Design Theorist: AI Just Proved It Can’t Think Without Us
Q: What is the biggest critique you face regarding predictions in ID, and how do you respond?
A common critique is the sharpshooter fallacy—retrofitting data to fit a target after the fact. Proponents respond that ID makes explicit, testable predictions about information content and genome functionality, and they argue that these predictions have been borne out by discoveries like functioning noncoding regions, though reception is mixed.
Intelligent Design Theorist: AI Just Proved It Can’t Think Without Us
Q: Do you think AI or cosmology demonstrates a mind behind existence?
The discussion argues that, while AI demonstrates remarkable capability, its outputs depend on conscious design and input; cosmology presents puzzles where mathematical structures and theoretical models hint at a mind behind reality, though this remains a philosophical stance rather than settled science.
Intelligent Design Theorist: AI Just Proved It Can’t Think Without Us
Q: Does intelligence make predictions, or is it mainly retrospective?
Intelligent design proponents argue that, alongside retrodictions, design-based theories make testable predictions, such as functional features in noncoding DNA and specific constraints in biology that differ from random or purely natural explanations; however, the strength and falsifiability of those predictions are debated.
Intelligent Design Theorist: AI Just Proved It Can’t Think Without Us
Q: First explain what abduction means, and then is AI a counter example to that whole thesis?
Abduction is reasoning from observed effects back to possible causes and then filtering possibilities as more data come in, seeking the best explanation rather than proving certainty. The AI discussion shows that initial data can produce coherent outputs when guided by human-originated information, but iterating on that data reveals limitations that keep mind-driven input central to reliable interpretation.
