  • Gum chewing?

I’ve enjoyed this podcast for years! There have been a number of episodes that it sounds like you’re chewing gum while the guest is talking. I can hear breathing and presumably gum-chewing. It is hard to listen to. It would be good to be on mute or maybe ditch the gum.

  • Congrats Lindsey from the 3rd place woman!

I’m a long time listener of the podcast but especially loved the most recent episode with Lindsey Bradley. I was the 3rd overall woman at Indy and it was fun to hear about the front of the race. And it’s always great to hear about other women who are trying to train hard while having full-time jobs and lives outside running. Thanks for a great episode!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#737 - Esteban Trujillo: From Oregon Walk-On, to Quitting Running and Moving to Alaska, to an OTQ and Second Masters Runner at Boston
Q: What were your goals entering Boston, and how did they shape your race strategy?
I set three goals: A to break 214, B to be top Master or top three, and C to beat my previous Boston time. I aimed to be aggressive early, see how the first half felt, and then decide if I could hold it or needed to strategize in the second half. The plan was to be patient with the back half and push hard when the body allowed, which helped me contend for Masters and stay in the race.
#736 - Damian Hall: The Secrets to Becoming an Ageless Athlete
Q: What was the process behind handing the menopause chapter to Renee McGregor, and how did you approach book construction?
I wanted to avoid mansplaining and collaborated with an expert who could credibly address menopause with science-backed guidance, ensuring a balanced treatment of topics alongside the strength and endurance content; this collaboration extended to other expert-led chapters and workouts in the book.
#736 - Damian Hall: The Secrets to Becoming an Ageless Athlete
Q: How do you balance speed work with long adventures, and what does that look like in your late 30s and beyond?
Speed work and endurance are integrated through regular VO2 max intervals and tempo work, while still prioritizing big days in the hills; strength training is added to preserve performance and health as the training load evolves with age.
#736 - Damian Hall: The Secrets to Becoming an Ageless Athlete
Q: What drew you to the ultra distances in the first place and how did your path evolve into the world of trail racing?
A fascination with distance and endurance sparked the journey, with early exposure to hiking and trekking feeding a desire to push further, followed by discovery of competitive ultras and a joy in the adventure and problem-solving that long races offer.
#735 - Finding Joy and Purpose in Running – Jess Sikorski's Inspirational Journey
Q: What about that process of trying to be the best as you possibly can in running?
It became obsessive for her, leading to eating disorders and constant thoughts about mileage and calories, until she redefined her goals and shifted toward sustainable enjoyment and well-being through running and community.
