  • I recovered because of this podcast

Applying what I’ve listened to here helped me fully recover. I listened to maybe 70-80 episodes. I think it’s good to get a really broad base of people’s experiences before taking that action, and also learning that your case may not be as unique and untreatable as you thought.

Also I just feel like this podcast is high vibration content. It replaced a popular podcast I used to listen to, and now I can’t go back to that one because they’re too negative. So now this has taught me that I need to... more

  • Accidental find that has been life changing

I can’t say enough about how life-changing this podcast has been. I have suffered from CFS for at least 10 years and just started my recovery journey recently. I can’t be more thankful for Raelan’s podcast. I’m on the mend partly because of it.

  • Finally found hope

I "accidentally" found Raelan's channel on YouTube in March after suffering from Long Covid for over a year. Having been diagnosed with dysautnomia and looking for help (there isn't any and it's unbelievablely depressing) I found Raelan and all the wonderful interviews she's done with people who have recovered from all kinds of chronic illnesses and the doctors who work with them. Finally - I found hope for getting my life back and actions I could take to get there. I talk about and share this ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dr. Hansma: The Longer You've Had Chronic Symptoms, The Easier You CAN Recover
Q: Is the duration of symptoms a reliable predictor of recovery?
Duration is not a strict predictor; while longer duration can offer more time for learning coping strategies, recovery can occur quickly once patients understand and apply the right approach.
Dr. Hansma: The Longer You've Had Chronic Symptoms, The Easier You CAN Recover
Q: What practical steps can a patient take to begin this process?
Patients can practice physiological calming techniques (breathing, heart-focused mechanics, body scans), reframe sensations through a safety lens, engage in comforting activities to redirect attention, and measure comfort and calm rather than pain level to reinforce positive changes.
Dr. Hansma: The Longer You've Had Chronic Symptoms, The Easier You CAN Recover
Q: How do organoids and in vitro models contribute to understanding chronic pain in humans?
Organoids and electrode recordings help visualize how neural networks can generate repetitive, maladaptive firing patterns; these findings guide hypotheses about similar patterns in human brains and inform strategies to recalibrate those patterns in patients.
Dr. Hansma: The Longer You've Had Chronic Symptoms, The Easier You CAN Recover
Q: What is the core scientific idea behind changing maladaptive neural firing patterns?
The core idea is to increase safety signals and decrease the brain's danger signals, thereby retraining neural circuits so they no longer perpetuate pain sensations even if some tissue issues remain.
211: The Childhood Pattern Behind Slow ME/CFS Recovery | Teresa Hobbs
Q: What does recovery look like for people who need more time and gentleness?
Recovery is a gradual process that involves building safety, understanding the mind-body connection, and expanding the nervous system's capacity through small, consistent steps rather than pushing for rapid change.
