  • I recovered because of this podcast

Applying what I’ve listened to here helped me fully recover. I listened to maybe 70-80 episodes. I think it’s good to get a really broad base of people’s experiences before taking that action, and also learning that your case may not be as unique and untreatable as you thought.

Also I just feel like this podcast is high vibration content. It replaced a popular podcast I used to listen to, and now I can’t go back to that one because they’re too negative. So now this has taught me that I need to... more

  • Accidental find that has been life changing

I can’t say enough about how life-changing this podcast has been. I have suffered from CFS for at least 10 years and just started my recovery journey recently. I can’t be more thankful for Raelan’s podcast. I’m on the mend partly because of it.

  • Finally found hope

I "accidentally" found Raelan's channel on YouTube in March after suffering from Long Covid for over a year. Having been diagnosed with dysautnomia and looking for help (there isn't any and it's unbelievablely depressing) I found Raelan and all the wonderful interviews she's done with people who have recovered from all kinds of chronic illnesses and the doctors who work with them. Finally - I found hope for getting my life back and actions I could take to get there. I talk about and share this ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

226: The Tinnitus Recovery Conversation No One Is Having | Dr. Marcia Dewey
Q: What practical steps can listeners take to begin addressing sound sensitivity?
Start with low-level, safe sounds (e.g., brown noise), use graded exposure/engagement rather than avoidance, and employ somatic tracking to observe and reduce the distress associated with sounds, aiming for safety and gradual reintroduction.
226: The Tinnitus Recovery Conversation No One Is Having | Dr. Marcia Dewey
Q: How do you classify tinnitus origins, and how does that affect treatment strategy?
There are three categories: true structural ear damage, benign changes in the ear or body that may amplify signals, and neuroplastic symptoms with no structural damage; all are brain-generated, and treatments focus on neuroplastic retraining, safety cues, and gradual engagement with sounds.
226: The Tinnitus Recovery Conversation No One Is Having | Dr. Marcia Dewey
Q: What percentage of tinnitus cases are neuroplastic in nature, and how does that compare to pain?
Dr. Dewey explains that essentially 100% of tinnitus can be considered neuroplastic in nature, similar to pain in that it is neurologically driven and brain-generated, though tinnitus may be less universally distressing than pain.
220: The 1% Shift That Changed Her Recovery (ME/CFS, Long Covid, POTS) | Dr. Crista Taylor, DPT
Q: What was that simple concept that helped you recover and changed your life?
The idea that success and recovery are determined by how we respond to symptoms and, more broadly, to life itself. By shifting our response from fear and panic to calm, we create internal safety in the nervous system, which gradually shifts the brain's processing and aids recovery.
221: A Doctor’s Recovery Blueprint for ME/CFS, Long COVID and Chronic Pain | Dr. David Schechter, MD
Q: What would be three take-home messages for people with chronic pain or unexplained symptoms?
Be open to the possibility that the mind, brain, and emotions play a significant role; explore these ideas through podcasts, books, and videos; and think psychologically about your symptoms, recognizing how stressors and environment can influence health.
