  • Good for opinion, bad for detail

It’s a fun listen but it’s surface level. The obvious comparison is price of football…. There Kieron Maguire can go incredibly deep on a subject as where this pod lacks that person. It’s great to get an opinion on the industry but it would be a better show if it had an expert and or researcher

Q: Is it not the case that some artists are earning a far better living from their music because of streaming?
Yes, some artists are doing much better thanks to streaming, as they get paid whenever their music is listened to rather than solely from album sales.
Steve and Stu answer your questions! Does the money from a stream get split evenly? Do bands get paid if a festival is cancelled? How do music-making AIs work? What is Spotify's Discovery Mode?
Q: What is Spotify's Discovery Mode?
Discovery Mode allows artists to promote a track to Spotify's algorithm for increased visibility, taking a commission on royalties from streams generated through this feature.

Q: What happens if a festival gets canceled?
Artists typically receive 50% of their fee if the festival is canceled, as the payment is held in escrow until the event occurs.
Steve and Stu answer your questions! Does the money from a stream get split evenly? Do bands get paid if a festival is cancelled? How do music-making AIs work? What is Spotify's Discovery Mode?
Q: How does the payment structure work for streaming services?
Typically, about 80% of streaming royalties go to recordings, and just over 20% goes to song royalties, but songwriters generally receive a larger share of their royalties compared to artists.
Oasis are back; The AI-generated band with a million listeners; Indies vs Universal Music spat gets grumpy; and who owns your songs if your label goes bust?
Q: If a record label goes bankrupt, what happens to the rights of its catalog?
The rights are treated as assets of the company and are sold off by administrators or liquidators; they do not revert to artists automatically.
