  • Sound Bible Doctrine

The postscript is all around fantastic. The amount of topics discussed are vast, yet it is not shallow. It is doctrinally deep, but also extremely practical.

If you are new to the faith , or have been studying the Bible for a long time, I am certain that you will learn and be edified.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 271: Drawn by Jesus: A Study of John 6 w/ Dr. Leighton Flowers
Q: How do you respond to the idea of 'no one can come to me' implying total inability from birth?
I argue that this interpretation reads into the text assumptions from other parts of scripture (like Ephesians 1 and Romans 9) rather than deriving the meaning from John's immediate context; Jesus is highlighting spiritual hardness and human free will within God's redemptive plan, not prescribing an innate birth condition of total inability.
Episode 271: Drawn by Jesus: A Study of John 6 w/ Dr. Leighton Flowers
Q: What is the central argument your book Drawn by Jesus makes about John 6?
The central argument is that John 6 should be read through a provisionist lens where God's universal provision and desire for all to come to Christ are clear, and that the text does not support unconditional election or irresistible grace as commonly argued by Calvinists; rather, belief and hearing the Father precede true faith and eternal life.
Episode 268: Dispensational Thought in the First Century w/ Dr. James Fazio, Dean of Bible and Theology at Southern California Seminary
Q: Why is the myth of dispensationalism an important subject to address?
Addressing the myth matters because it corrects the oversimplified origin story that Darby created dispensationalism in isolation, highlighting instead a broader historical development and the evolution of its ideas. This helps readers engage more accurately with the Scripture-based foundations and avoids caricatured debates.
Episode 268: Dispensational Thought in the First Century w/ Dr. James Fazio, Dean of Bible and Theology at Southern California Seminary
Q: What is dispensationalism, and does it have a historic precedent beyond a single founder?
Dispensationalism is not the invention of any one person or group; it is a convergence of ideas drawn from Scripture that has developed over centuries, with roots in earlier church history rather than a singular 19th-century invention. The movement emphasizes a grammar-historical approach to Scripture and a recognition of distinct dispensations in redemptive history, rather than a single doctrinal line.
Episode 269: What Does the Bible Say About Hell?
Q: Explain to us, what is annihilationism?
Annihilationists define death, destruction, perish, hell and judgment as annihilation, meaning souls or the wicked are eventually destroyed rather than eternally tormented; however, this view hinges on specific definitions of terms like death and destruction, and many biblical texts are interpreted to support everlasting judgment and torment rather than annihilation.
