  • Great podcasts, and I’m not a hunter or fisherman.

I’m older now but still enjoy the outdoors. The podcasts are almost always interesting and give real glimpses into human and animal nature, and how technology addresses it all. Very well done.

  • Other side Episode 109

The other side of the debate. Now that the citizens of the western states want to limit out of state hunters. The states make the fees higher and the preference points system more difficult. I might be able to buy land in my own state to hunt on. If western states are raising fees to limit access it is no use to me to have publ... more

  • Partnering with Harris/Walz?

It’s quite shocking one of if not the oldest Outdoor publication would partner with the campaign that hates everything a hunter cares about. Great job outdoor life. You screwed yourself.

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why Some Rifle Cartridges Thrive, and Others Die Out
Q: What are the common threads you see that predict whether a modern cartridge will become a lasting success like the 6.5 Creedmoor?
A successful cartridge typically combines an improved design with broad, practical rollout—easy to load, accurate, and supported by a wide selection of rifles and ammunition; availability across markets and ongoing industry adoption are key.
Why Some Rifle Cartridges Thrive, and Others Die Out
Q: There's a ton of interesting stuff in this story that we'll dig into, but just off the top, what's the biggest thing that stood out in the story that you're like, man, this is written decades ago, but it's still relevant today?
Freel points to the recurring theme that cartridges rise or fall based on practical factors like the number of guns chambered for them and the availability of factory ammo, not just on paper ballistics, and notes the ongoing relevance of O'Connor's observations in modern cartridge ecosystems.
They Lived in the Boundary Waters for an Entire Year
Q: What surprised you most about the experience?
They were struck by how the senses continued to heighten even after months, how isolation shaped daily life, and how encounters with visitors helped spread the message to protect the Boundary Waters.
They Lived in the Boundary Waters for an Entire Year
Q: How did you plan and execute the year-long journey in practical terms (resupplies, routes, logistics)?
They used an expedition manager to plan a rough sweep of the wilderness, relied on volunteers for resupplies every two weeks, and adjusted routes seasonally, including a winter setup with sled dogs and a hot tent.
They Lived in the Boundary Waters for an Entire Year
Q: What inspired you to spend a year in the Boundary Waters and pursue this as a mission?
They were motivated by protecting the wilderness from mining threats and wanted to mobilize public support through a long-term, immersive demonstration of what the Boundary Waters means to people across the country.
