  • Absolute best podcast!

There are a lot of podcasts out there about weight loss and GLP-1 medications. They run the gamut from informative to misguided, from clever to forgettable—and there are so many of them. Where's an old girl, clutching her brand-new box of Zepbound, supposed to find trustworthy guidance?

That was exactly my situation two years ago.

Happily—and enthusiastically—I can tell you that The Obesity Guide podcast, hosted by Dr.

Matthea Rentea, is likely the only one you'll need. Through sheer dumb lu... more

This is hands down my favorite podcast for individuals of all shapes and sizes as it covers many different facets of what it means to live a healthy lifestyle. It’s at the top of my referral list as a registered dietitian for clients on a weight loss or GLP-1 journey. I love her tone, direct but compassionate messaging. Her guests are experts in their field or patients with wonderful insight on how they successfully navigated their path forward under her guidance.

  • The help I needed

Found this podcast the day before I started on Zepbound. Feeling alone in this journey and like a failure for starting the meds. This podcast helped in so many ways. Advice, community, relevant topics. It is for anyone in any stage or just wanting some information. Two months in as of this week and on my way. Thank you!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Social Media, Comparison, and Weight Loss: Protecting Your Mental Health Online with Schnelle Acevedo
Q: What should people do to avoid falling into the comparison trap online, especially around health and weight loss?
The guest emphasizes remembering that most online content is curated and fabricated; focus on your own journey, verify information with medical professionals, and cultivate skepticism about dramatic before-and-after shifts.
The Hair Loss Conversation Your Doctor Should Be Having With You with Dr. Komal Patil-Sisodia
Q: How does the treatment approach change if there's a potential tumor producing androgens?
If a tumor is suspected, a comprehensive evaluation of ovaries and adrenals is performed to identify and address the source; only after ruling out such causes would more standard PMOS/androgen management be pursued.
The Hair Loss Conversation Your Doctor Should Be Having With You with Dr. Komal Patil-Sisodia
Q: What can be done specifically for androgenic hair loss in PMOS or high androgens?
Management includes addressing the underlying insulin resistance, possibly using metformin; employing hormone-suppressing strategies such as spironolactone or combined birth control to lower free testosterone; and considering topical treatments like minoxidil, with awareness of potential side effects like increased facial hair in certain populations.
The Hair Loss Conversation Your Doctor Should Be Having With You with Dr. Komal Patil-Sisodia
Q: Can you name a few of the hyperandrogenic manifestations to look for besides scalp thinning?
Look for signs such as increased facial and body hair, deeper voice, clitoromegaly in some cases, and potential changes in hair distribution across the body, which together signal higher androgens and prompt a medical workup.
Tired, Hungry, and Stuck? How Poor Sleep Affects Hormones, Cravings, and Weight Loss with Dr. Funke Afolabi-Brown
Q: What are your thoughts on sleep debt and whether you can make up missed sleep with naps?
Sleep debt is not fully bankable; while short naps can help some, chronic sleep debt is difficult to fully compensate, and napping should be used judiciously depending on insomnia risk and overall schedule.
