  • This is not background noise

This is one of those podcast, that you really have to “listen” to. To be honest sometimes I have to listen to cast twice to try and understand the deep dive David and co go through. For a simple soul such as myself every show is an exploration.

  • The future of endurance sports performance

Listening to this show I felt like I was hearing the early stages of a fundamental shift in how endurance sports are experienced - I would not be at all surprised if there were a “trickle down” effect to the rest of the endurance sports landscape over the following years and decades based on the work and research Olav is putting in with his team - in other words, he’s changing the game.

This is essential listening for anyone who wants to understand what the future of triathlon and endurance spo... more

  • Incredibly useful endurance training information

This podcast is exactly I have been searching for.

The in-depth information helps me craft training and racing plans on a level I could never have done without a top-quality (and often costly) coach.

Every episode offers excellent detail, nicely tailored and contextualised for age-group athletes.

I also love hearing about Olav’s athletes and the incredible levels they have taken their bodes too. Fascinating!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Kristian - Post Challenge Roth
Q: Did you feel you were going to come out three minutes down after the swim, and how did you adapt your strategy on the bike?
I expected to be behind but chose to focus on the bike and run dynamics, using the gaps and pack psychology to manage energy and position rather than forcing a risky move on the swim.
Gustav - Post IM Frankfurt Review
Q: What's the plan for the run given Achilles and running form?
Continue targeted run-specific work, monitor hamstring and ankle rehab, and gradually integrate higher-volume running while maintaining overall training consistency.
Gustav - Post IM Frankfurt Review
Q: What were you thinking in T2 after a tougher bike leg?
I focused on recovery, acknowledging the feet and legs needed time to loosen up, and trusted that the run would come around once the body adjusted to the transition.
Gustav - Post IM Frankfurt Review
Q: How did you pace the bike in a distance you have trained for before?
The approach was to stay aggressive early, manage power effectively in the first part, and rely on feel when the power meter wasn't connected, with emphasis on staying within comfort zones and leveraging drafting strategies.
Olav - Kristian’s VO2Max Testing
Q: Why is Kristian's VO2 max value not the sole indicator of potential performance?
Because VO2 max must be understood in the context of biochemical and biomechanical efficiency, heat tolerance, hemoglobin mass, and how well the athlete translates oxygen uptake into forward propulsion; a high VO2 max without efficient energy use or sufficient oxygen delivery won't yield optimal race performance.
