  • The future of endurance sports performance

Listening to this show I felt like I was hearing the early stages of a fundamental shift in how endurance sports are experienced - I would not be at all surprised if there were a “trickle down” effect to the rest of the endurance sports landscape over the following years and decades based on the work and research Olav is putting in with his team - in other words, he’s changing the game.

I also love hearing about Olav’s athletes and the incredible levels they have taken their bodes too. Fascinating!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Kristian - Post IMNZ & How to Review Races
Q: Does any of that change how you think about Kona at all?
Even with the setback, Kona remains a target; the race pace and field are different there, and he intends to keep planning for future events like Roth and Hawaii with the understanding that heat and course demands will require adjustments.
Kristian - Post IMNZ & How to Review Races
Q: What goes through your mind when the aero bar comes loose and you have to ride with one bar?
I initially considered stopping, then planned to wait for an aid station to discard the loose part, and eventually accepted riding with one bar while the bike mechanic worked to fix the issue, staying focused on staying in the race.
Kristian - Post IMNZ & How to Review Races
Q: And going through the race, how did you find the swim?
The swim was okay but a bit choppy and not my favored leg; it was hard to gauge distance with the straight sections and turning points, but I managed to exit not far off the front pack.
Olav - Q&A 2
Q: How should bicarb and plasmate supplements be used in relation to training cycles?
These should be utilized with clear purpose during specific sessions, rather than applied arbitrarily, and should support the training plan and athlete's needs.
Olav - Q&A 2
Q: What implications does caffeine have on lactate levels?
Caffeine can influence lactate values, but it's essential to consider other variables such as the nutrients ingested alongside caffeine that may affect blood lactate concentration.
