  • Used to love these guys

Used to love these guys. Was a long time paying podcast supporter, Insta, Strava, TTL app and merch, watched every YouTube, etc. Then they had to do what people in the entertainment industry can’t seem to wrap their heads around. Stop bringing your political opinions and views into the things that people watch purely to get away from that. Everyone knows there are problems, and no one cares what your opinion is.

  • Canadian provinces

Listen regularly. Was a little put off by Nick’s comments re Newfoundland/Labrador. Being Canadian I thought that was a very dismissive/typical American discussion re the Canadian province. Overall like the podcast but that was pretty rude.

  • Good triathlon podcast

I am an every episode listener. After hearing the January 29, 2026 episode, the only thing I could say negative about the podcast is please don’t go political. Sports is separate from politics.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Sherpa-ing a pro triathlete, ERG mode vs. free ride mode, and more!
Q: Is ERG mode cheating or is it a smart tool for hitting targets?
Not cheating at all; it's a tool that helps target precise power or allow controlled variability, though some riders prefer free ride for certain workouts to manage cadence and real-world feel.
Sherpa-ing a pro triathlete, ERG mode vs. free ride mode, and more!
Q: Any tips or tricks on being a Sherpa for a pro athlete?
Focus on logistics and emotional support; don't overstep or talk unless asked, bring practical items like a pump, and be ready to adjust to the athlete's needs the day before and during the race.
Tire size for cycling vs triathlon, bilateral breathing for triathletes, and more!
Q: Dan from Canada asks about fueling for early morning training with limited appetite and whether to use gels or real food.
The consensus is to prioritize some real food or liquid calories before workouts, or a small, easy-to-digest option like a gel or a light breakfast, and to avoid fasted early sessions; if using gels, keep portions moderate and consider a small prior bite to ease stomach comfort.
Is shaving weight off a triathlon bike really worth it, and more!
Q: Is breathwork a legitimate performance tool or mainly for recovery and stress management?
The group largely views breathwork as helpful for mental calm and anxiety reduction, with some physiological benefits, but doubts any large, direct, performance boost like a 10% VO2 max increase; they see value more in mental regulation than a guaranteed race‑day improvement.
Triathlon training habits pros wish they had adopted earlier, upgrading your TT bike, and more!
Q: How should one approach pushing to the limit in workouts and racing?
The consensus is that failing workouts occasionally can be informative and help define limits, but it is not necessary or prudent to fail every session; pacing and race-day strategy are critical, especially in long events like 70.3 where heat and terrain influence effort distribution.
