  • One of the favs

I listen to a number of triathlon podcasts and this is up there with the best. It seems like podcasting comes natural for Aaron as he asks great questions and is able to keep a good flow of conversation going with Jelle and guests. Jelle’s insights are also top notch and provides an interesting perspective as he can speak to both short and long course triathlon.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

What's next?
Q: In 2026, who do you think are the dark horses (one male, one female) from short and long course that will have life-changing seasons?
They name Oli Conway as a rising male in short/middle distance and Hugo Milner as a strong runner, with Tilda Manson as a promising young female; for long distance, Jake Bertwistle is highlighted as a potential podium threat, and Audrey Merle is noted as an emerging competitor who could become more consistent.
Marten Van Riel and Jelle preview IM Texas!
Q: What is your plan for the bike if the lead group stays together for a long stretch?
I'd save energy in the first 120k and then respond to developments later, aiming to be in a strong position for the run rather than chasing every attack.
Jimmy Whelan - Pro cyclist, triathlete and runner?!
Q: Why did you choose Salomon for running?
Salomon offered a small, tightly knit team that could directly support my transition with both performance resources and marketing opportunities, which felt like a good fit for my evolving goals in running.
Jimmy Whelan - Pro cyclist, triathlete and runner?!
Q: What was the first major indicator you could compete as a pro runner?
Running the Valencia Half Marathon, where I ran 61:37 and was competing with Nike, Adidas, and New Balance athletes, confirmed that I belonged among elite runners and enabled sponsorship discussions.
Jimmy Whelan - Pro cyclist, triathlete and runner?!
Q: What sparked the move from cycling to triathlon and then running?
A crash in the Dauphiné and the realization that continuing at the cycling level would require a different path pushed me toward triathlon, and later, a rising passion for running led to pursuing professional road racing with Salomon.
