  • Breath of Fresh Air

Truly enjoyed the podcast with Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman. She was such a breath of fresh air. As a Black Women, I felt seen and validated as I listened to her share the numbers/data behind my lived experiences. While some of my experiences differed as a Canadian from Toronto, it was an illuminating conversation. I could have listened to her for an additional 60 minutes. I felt like we only touched the surface and there was so much more to be discussed. So, bottom line, adding her book to cart.

  • Personal Finance to Diabolical Lies?

I love that Katie built a thriving personal finance platform. But the veer into political mob mentality that is fostered on her Diabolical Lies platform is as advertised: diabolical. It’s a breach of trust to foster a hostile, narrow minded community. Personal finance is for everyone, regardless of how you vote. Katie, your bias is showing. Girl, bye. 👋

  • Makes you feel sane and insane at the same time

I listen to a fair amount of non-political finance podcasts, but it is nice to find a podcast that will acknowledge current legislation and societal issues along with their impact on the economy and personal finance. Your book suggestions are great and you have pointed me towards experts you have had on as guests that I might have never heard of.

A Practical Way to Fight for a Brighter Financial Future—Together
Q: What is pre-majority unionism?
Pre-majority unionism means you start acting like a union, even if you haven't won a union election or have a contract.
A Practical Way to Fight for a Brighter Financial Future—Together
Q: Can you sketch the connection for me between worker-to-worker organizing and neutralizing the power that is currently concentrated in the hands of roughly 1,000 Americans?
The basic problem of this country is oligarchy, and it's that oligarchy is at this point indistinguishable from the authoritarian regime of Donald Trump. To build enough power to stop that, unions and worker organizing are crucial.
Why the "Double Tax" is the Canary in the Economic Coal Mine We Need to Pay Attention to
Q: Can you explain the economic concept of the double tax you discuss in your book?
The double tax refers to the compounded costs of racism and sexism that Black women face, which affect their economic outcomes in various areas of life.
Personal Finance is Broken—Can These Economists Fix It?
Q: What is the connection between credit card rewards and wealth inequality?
Credit card rewards create an incentive structure that benefits those who can pay off their cards while being subsidized by those who cannot manage credit responsibly due to lower incomes or financial instability.
Personal Finance is Broken—Can These Economists Fix It?
Q: Can you outline the thrust of that argument for me?
The thrust of the argument is that the financial system is structurally creating wealth inequality by providing richer individuals with higher returns, lower borrowing rates, and better savings potential, exacerbating the gap between rich and poor over time.
