Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Retirement
Q: Was the Social Security decision a strategic one, and when did you begin drawing benefits?
I waited until age 70 to start Social Security, which provided a higher monthly benefit; prior to that, we relied on savings and investments to fund living expenses, balancing draws with what we had accumulated.
Retirement
Q: When did you start saving for retirement, and what did your saving look like?
From the beginning of my marriage, we lived on the lower salary and saved from my earnings; my wife stopped working as the kids grew up, and we continued saving aggressively, using a combination of a 401K, guidance from a financial advisor, and disciplined budgeting.
Retirement
Q: So what is the life that you're living today after retirement, Reb Dovid?
Today I spend most of my day learning, with structured chavrusa sessions, and I maintain a disciplined daily routine that includes family time and continued study; retirement for me is about purpose, continuing to give back, and staying active within my limits.
Tuition
Q: What happens if a family cannot pay tuition due to hardship?
There are provisions for temporary pauses, potential partial payments, and assistance in finding employment; the school also leverages fundraising and MISER to support families.
Tuition
Q: What government programs exist to aid tuition, and how real is their impact right now?
There is the Educational Choices for Children Act (Big Beautiful Bill) that could redirect certain tax payments to SGOs for scholarships, but it is still early and not yet a major game changer; its final impact is uncertain and will depend on states and regulations.
