  • Insulin Resistance

I’ve enjoyed listening to this show for a year or so.

However, I was taken aback by what I heard on the episode of June 11, 2025. Dr suggested that the benefits of using GLP-1 are related to weight loss.

Other experts are coming to different conclusion , namely that the foundational condition of metabolic syndrome is insulin resistance or hyperinsulinemia, not type 2 diabetes or obesity. Dr Ben Bikman has an excellent graphic on his website, Insulin IQ, labeled the “Plagues of Prosperity “.... more

So distracting to hear Terry O’Brian constantly interrupting the doctor.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP 115 Coronary Calcium Score: A Prerequisite Before Statins? Insights with Dr. Paul Kolodzik
Q: How should a patient use a calcium score in a discussion with their doctor?
A calcium score provides a concrete risk indicator; higher scores may push toward statin therapy or further testing, while low scores might support a watchful waiting approach.
EP 115 Coronary Calcium Score: A Prerequisite Before Statins? Insights with Dr. Paul Kolodzik
Q: What is LP(a) and why does it matter in deciding about statins?
LP(a) is a subfraction of LDL that can be particularly atherogenic; a high LP(a) alongside high LDL or calcium scores can strengthen the case for statin consideration.
EP 115 Coronary Calcium Score: A Prerequisite Before Statins? Insights with Dr. Paul Kolodzik
Q: How do statins actually lower cholesterol and why are people concerned about them?
Statins reduce LDL and triglycerides and can lower cardiovascular risk, but concerns include muscle aches and potential, though not definitive, dementia risk; decisions should weigh benefits against side effects and overall risk.
EP 110 The Wegovy Pill: Transformative Impacts on Health and Weight Management with Dr. Paul Kolodzik
Q: Can you explain how the Wegovy Pill differs from the injectable Wegovy in terms of dosing and administration?
The pill requires higher milligram dosing to achieve comparable systemic exposure due to differences in absorption, with dosing steps like 1.5 mg up to 14 mg for the pill versus lower injectable increments; the administration schedule and food/water restrictions also differ, affecting onset and tolerability.
EP 108 The Order of Eating: How Food Sequencing Affects Your Health with Dr. Paul Kolodzik
Q: What is resistant starch and how does it affect blood sugar?
Resistant starch, formed when starchy foods are cooked and cooled, resists digestion, leading to a lower blood sugar spike and acting more like a fiber.
