Loving this podcast! Kristian has had on such amazing and inspiring guests. He does a great job getting them to tell their stories with the right type of questions. I also very much appreciate the Boston series as I’m headed to my 2nd Boston. Also, love to hear about Kristian’s own marathon journey.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#170 Sam Sutton: Using running to deal with grief
Q: How has your running helped you cope with grief over the past months?
Running has provided structure, a way to process emotions, and a framework to honor my mom. It offered small rituals—like mile-by-mile reminders and moments of connection—that helped me keep going even on hard days.
#166 Matt Moosavian: Weightlifting and 2:35 marathon
Q: What is his approach to CIM and future sub-2 goals?
He plans to continue high-quality, coach-guided training with progressive volume and targeted workouts, avoiding strict guardrails on a time goal for CIM, and prioritizing learning from each block and enjoying the race.
#166 Matt Moosavian: Weightlifting and 2:35 marathon
Q: What changed in his training to go from a marathon in the 3:20s to Boston 2:35?
He increased overall volume, incorporated more marathon-specific strength and speed work, and worked with coaches at RunFree to balance tempo, threshold, and race-pace targets, while managing time constraints with family life.
#166 Matt Moosavian: Weightlifting and 2:35 marathon
Q: How did Matt's weightlifting background influence his running form and injury resilience?
He argues that strong movement mechanics from Olympic lifting improve running biomechanics, reduce injury risk from repetitive loading, and allow higher volume training without breaking down, provided the strength work is specific and well-integrated with running.
#167 Fotion Konomi: Saving a marathon block with cross -training
Q: What was the mindset after your Athens Marathon and the subsequent injury and how did it influence your training approach?
The guest explains taking a cautious restart after Athens, progressively increasing mileage with attention to tendon health, reintroducing running in small increments, and using cross-training to stay aerobically prepared while managing pain.
