  • Good Stuff

You know those podcasts where it takes a couple episodes to really get the vibe? This isn’t one of those. It’s hilarious. Real emotion, creative range, riveting characters, and vivid storylines. Took me about 5 minutes to realize it was a running podcast, so credit to some harsh critics’ observation, but hey, the line between idiocy and critic is so thin these days. Unlike my calves which have only thickened since listening to the boys on long runs.

In all seriousness, it’s a balanced reflectio... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#273 Jess Donohue - Running 2:34 to OTQ at McKirdy Marathon
Q: How did she approach pacing and the use of pacers in OTQ attempt?
She used pacers to hit an 5:16-5:19 mile pace range early and then executed a decisive move with a 20th-mile surge to break away and chase OTQ, maintaining a strong negative or even-split later depending on the group dynamics.
#273 Jess Donohue - Running 2:34 to OTQ at McKirdy Marathon
Q: What was Jess's official time at Marathon Project and how does it compare to McCurdy?
Her Marathon Project time was around 2:44, which she views as part of the learning curve, while McCurdy had her at 2:40-2:41 range; she emphasizes personal growth and using past experiences to fuel future performances.
#269 Corbin Harris - How to Break 15 in the 5k, Why Speed Blocks Are Important, Going All In to OTQ
Q: How are you approaching the Derby Half and the 10-mile to optimize your chances of a fast time?
The plan is to run a controlled but competitive Derby Half, avoid excessive risk early, and then make a decisive move in the hills of the 10-mile to test endurance and pacing over longer distances, aiming for a sub-66:30 half-equivalent pace.
#269 Corbin Harris - How to Break 15 in the 5k, Why Speed Blocks Are Important, Going All In to OTQ
Q: So how did the 5K play out pace wise for you and what was your strategy entering the race?
Corbin explains that he aimed to run the first 2K conservatively, then kick with a planned 3K of fast tempo, but was forced to adjust as Keaton and Dillon posted faster opening splits; he hit the move at 2K to try to catch them, but ultimately could not sustain the late surge, recognizing the need to balance speed with race management.
#270 - Instagram Q + A: Running Mentors, Building a Running Community, Coros > Garmin?
Q: What are your go-to race day fueling strategies or carb-loading approach?
The group discusses a balanced approach: avoid bloating from overeating, consume carbs in the days leading up to the race, stay hydrated, and listen to your body for digestion and energy cues.
