  • Conspiracy theories and bro science

I listened to an episode looking for quality advice, but instead heard the host parroting conspiracy theories from Tucker Carlson, expressing weird grievances about other running podcasters and sharing his opinions not backed by any evidence. I don’t know why you’d listen to this when there are so many quality running podcasts available.

There’s many good running podcasts out there. This isn’t one of them. Too much drama with this guy.

  • Thoughts on immigration experience

Entitled? I hear your frustrations with the process of immigration and their fairness. You mention that in your emergency interview you provided info that was a wink wink. Not so fair. I guess it goes both ways do better and immigration should also do better. Just came off entitled to me. Anyway enjoy your podcast and will continue to follow.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

IMO #32 - Marathon Mindset Tools, Mileage Plateaus, Easy Runs & Strava Ego, Sleep Supplements & more
Q: Sea level to altitude racing, when to arrive?
Arriving earlier is generally better to allow adaptation, with two weeks being a practical minimum for many athletes, though practical constraints (work, family) may require shorter stays; the key is giving the body time to acclimate to the elevation.
IMO #32 - Marathon Mindset Tools, Mileage Plateaus, Easy Runs & Strava Ego, Sleep Supplements & more
Q: Pros and cons of training alone versus a group.
The host outlines that groups provide motivation and accountability and can push athletes to improve, but can also push them beyond optimal effort if not managed carefully; a hybrid approach with some group work and some individual sessions tends to work best.
Marty Bordignon on his 2:46 Osaka PB, Training by Feel, Weight Strategy, and Chasing Big Goals at Gold Coast
Q: What lessons from How Bad Do You Want It? have you applied to training and racing?
The book emphasizes the perception of effort and not tying pace to a fixed number, helping him race by feel and adjust mental thresholds to avoid anxieties around numbers.
Marty Bordignon on his 2:46 Osaka PB, Training by Feel, Weight Strategy, and Chasing Big Goals at Gold Coast
Q: How did your training philosophy and structure look for the Osaka build, and how long did you view that block?
He explains a conventional weekly structure with interval work, threshold sessions, and long runs, a roughly 16-week block, and a progression from base shaping to marathon-specific fueling and volume, with peak weeks around 130-150 km.
Marty Bordignon on his 2:46 Osaka PB, Training by Feel, Weight Strategy, and Chasing Big Goals at Gold Coast
Q: What made you interested in starting running in the first place, and how did you originally approach training and racing psychologically?
Marty describes growing up watching the Gold Coast Marathon on the course, his shift from various sports to running, and how he moved from a casual 1km start to longer distances and eventually a marathon, with inspiration from mentors and a shift toward focusing on effort and consistency rather than solely chasing numbers.
