A brief history of Medieval Sunderland that gives you the perfect introduction to the realities of everyday life in the year that the drama opens...
13yr old Marian is having bad dreams about her late mother, she's cooking and cleaning up after everyone, and now her father means to have her married off in the next year. But a visit to the village well is the start of a whole new story...
As Lord Lambton's son & heir, John, faces the consequences of disobeying his father, Marian seeks the counsel of Wise Woman Charlotte about the strange creature she saved from the well. She has a lot of work ahead of her.
Some unexpected help with the annual harvest delights the villagers, but the Reeve is getting angry as Marian and her creature test his patience to breaking point. Meanwhile, an unwelcome marriage proposal brings things to a head for Marian.
An increasingly frustrated Reeve hatches a terrible plan of revenge. As things get out of hand, the villagers start to see the creature very differently.
The Lambton's hold the creature's fate in their hands. But Marian knows its true nature and is in a race against time to convince them to abandon their plan.
All Marian and the creature ever wanted is freedom. All the Lambtons wanted was to be remembered. Who will win, who will lose? Marian's story concludes, for now.
Meet Marian, and her life.
