  • Fix the sound then you get five stars

Wonderful podcast but lately the sound has been bad. It has been distracting because it sounds like you are not keeping a consistent distance from the microphone. This is true for Micah in particular

  • Important information!

This has been an important part of the resources I’ve leaned on the last 7 yrs as a mother of a son with DS. Thank you for talking about these crucial topics.

One criticism is the recording quality. Idk if it’s just me, but your conversations cut in and out quite a bit and I really want to be able to hear every last tidbit. It’s especially hard to listen to this on any type of Bluetooth device - I can’t turn the volume loud enough when the recording is going in and out. Please keep the topics c... more

  • Living under a rock….

So this might take a minute but THANKYOU to each of you on this amazing show. I just found you this week and I have listened to several episodes and it’s life changing. I’m a homeschooling mom of six, my youngest was born at 26 weeks and spent his first four months in the hospital. He was diagnosed with DS at two months old. I tell people he got it from the hospital. Insert laughing here. I didn’t cry because he had so many life threatening issues,DS was just another thing. It was a blessing, I ... more

  • SO glad Bryan found you!

I cannot say enough about this incredible podcast and these three amazing individuals advocating for their loved ones with Down Syndrome. My husband found this podcast the day after we received our in utero diagnosis at 12 weeks. He started listening immediately while it took me several weeks to be ready to embark on this journey.

I started at Episode 1 and have listened to the entire 248 episodes to date! In fact, my husband and I use each episode as our therapy sessions, listening separately... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

317. Brain Health & DS: Trauma and Intellectual Disability w/Dr. Karyn Harvey
Q: How can parents support their children with intellectual disabilities and address their mental health needs?
Focus on support rather than trying to change the child. Listening to them, advocating for their rights, and ensuring they receive the care they need are crucial.
317. Brain Health & DS: Trauma and Intellectual Disability w/Dr. Karyn Harvey
Q: What advice would you have for parents who are navigating complex situations in schools for their kids with disabilities?
Trust your instincts as a parent. If you feel the environment is triggering for your child, consider removing them from it or advocating for changes. Don't let professionals gaslight you into doubting your intuition about your child's needs.
315. Brain Health & DS: Alzheimer's Disease Prevalence and Treatment (w/Dr. Michael Rafii)
Q: How does Alzheimer's affect individuals with Down syndrome and how is that different than individuals without Down syndrome?
Alzheimer's disease in people with Down syndrome essentially follows the same pathological patterns as in the general population, but due to genetic differences, plaques form more readily in the Down syndrome population.
315. Brain Health & DS: Alzheimer's Disease Prevalence and Treatment (w/Dr. Michael Rafii)
Q: What led you to work on treatment for Alzheimer's disease?
Dr. Rafii was inspired by a neurologist he met as a college student, who took him into Alzheimer research and allowed him to observe patient evaluations.
314. Diving Deeper: Motor Planning, Apraxia, & More
Q: Is there a spectrum to Apraxia?
There hasn't been enough research on Apraxia, especially in individuals with Down Syndrome, but regardless of its presence, behaviors and actions can still be addressed through motor coaching and neural pathway development.
