I’m a big podcast guy and as such I try to find a podcast for my interest and hobbies, which includes soccer and the Loons. I’m so thankful for Dan and Matt, as I think they’re producing not only the best podcast about the Loons we have, but one of the best MLS fanbase podcasts.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

109: The Return of the Set Piece FC (feat. Andy Greder)
Q: What is the bigger picture behind the club's current roster moves and ownership ambitions?
Greder argues ownership is calculating and consistently outperforms their salary spend, aiming for a foundation-first approach and selective marquee signings when the club has the right core.
107: Winning Streaks Are Allowed? (feat. Wes Burdine)
Q: Should Open Cup rounds on the road for lower-division teams be hosted by the lower-division sides by default?
Yes, there should be a mechanism to give lower-division teams a fair chance to host, because the Open Cup is financially challenging for smaller clubs and hosting can drive meaningful engagement and revenue.
107: Winning Streaks Are Allowed? (feat. Wes Burdine)
Q: What impressed you most about the Portland game and the integration of new players like Cancalay?
Cancalay has been a revelation, offering both pace and work rate on both sides of the ball, while Chalamet has settled in as a solid attacking presence, complementing Pereira and creating a functional front line.
107: Winning Streaks Are Allowed? (feat. Wes Burdine)
Q: Wes, what stood out to you from the Open Cup win in Sacramento and the rotation you saw in that game?
The Open Cup win felt bittersweet as a tough, grindy performance, but the rotation brought fresh legs and new energy, and the key moment was Smurr's save and the decisive finish that kept the run going.
104: Spring Break Soccer Takes (feat. Andrew Wiebe)
Q: How does Andrew Wiebe view the balance between a luxury talisman like Hamas Rodriguez and building a team plan around collective fundamentals?
Wiebe suggests that a luxury player can help with quality but may complicate tactical balance; the hosts and Wiebe explore how to pair such players with runners and defenders to maintain structural integrity.
