Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

15. Michael J. Ash: "CSI Magic" for Winning Trials - Using Google Earth to Make Juries Understand Property Cases
Q: What was sort of your thinking for leaving the prior firm and going solo? What prompted you to switch sides and defend property owners?
The shift came from recognizing that the property owner side can be more impactful and satisfying, and after a long history of government-side work, we embraced the opportunity to defend the 'angel' side; the move was about aligning values and leveraging our combined expertise.
15. Michael J. Ash: "CSI Magic" for Winning Trials - Using Google Earth to Make Juries Understand Property Cases
Q: So is there any particular attorneys that you have found are the biggest source of referrals? I know, and at least for RIMAT, you know, a classic thing for trust and state litigators is you find the trust and state attorneys, the estate planners that do not want to do litigation, and they end up being a very good source of referrals. Is there like an equivalent in your practice area?
Our best referrals tend to be larger real estate and practice groups at bigger firms who have institutional clients and need this specialized expertise, so we often collaborate with them; they refer matters when they encounter eminent domain or tax appeal issues and we add value with our niche capabilities.
27. Matthew Letts: AI Should Signal the Death of the Billable Hour, Not the Death of the Lawyer
Q: So which one do you think is more realistic and should be keeping lawyers up at night if any?
It's a pincer movement; clients have more choice and are savvier, but established firms can still win by innovating and leveraging strong relationships, tech, and differentiated value.
19. Elijah McNally: Marketing with Heart - How to Ditch Legal Jargon and Win Clients
Q: When and how should solo practitioners start investing in marketing channels like SEO and ads, and how to know when to bring in external help?
Start small with a modest budget to test messaging and channels; use budget as low as $100–$1000 a month, then scale. Track results via UTMs and AI-assisted insights, and consider bringing in external vendors when the scope grows beyond what an individual can manage, especially for building a consistent strategy across channels.
19. Elijah McNally: Marketing with Heart - How to Ditch Legal Jargon and Win Clients
Q: Can you expand on how you're making marketing feel like a story that relates to potential clients rather than using traditional bragging about 'the best lawyers' or huge settlements?
The approach is about crafting an experience across ads, socials, and the website that shows we understand the client's questions and trauma, with compassionate messaging and real people behind it. This storytelling emphasizes empathy, accessibility, and clear, actionable information rather than generic hype.
