The losses were heartbreaking and tough, but they helped me pause, accept the journey, and reframe my priorities around family and joy in surfing, ultimately fueling a renewed fire to compete.

Q: If you were not a professional surfer, what career do you think you would be in?
I would probably be a teacher or work with kids, driven by a love for energy and service to the next generation, and I'd likely devote time to growing programs that bring girls and women together through Moore Aloha.

Q: What did you learn from your hardest year on tour?
The hardest year (2010) included a severe injury and the loss of a close friend; it reinforced the tour as a tight community that supports each other, turning tragedy into lasting bonds and perspective on what really matters in the sport.

Parkinson would have loved Skeleton Bay (lefts) and explained his dislike for going right, indicating a long-standing preference for left-handers and how opportunity and geography influenced his early career decisions.
