  • Jed & Dead-ly

Fantastic podcast, overall, and the brothers’ show The Hold Down is really fun, also. Been a listener for years (ex-pat in the U.S. from Warriewood) and one of the better aspects is they’re not beholden to the WSL, so it’s “pure, tour nerdism, core lords,” live shows and some important, albeit usually devastating, world news stuff as well, five stars.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

BREAKING! The Surfing Super League Unveiled!
Q: Where did this thing come from, and what is it exactly?
Mater explains that the concept grew out of a long development period involving market potential, a team-based format, and the business case around media rights, sponsorship, and franchise economics.
Core Lords: Indo Warrior, Piter Panjaitan, On Surfers Buying Up Land and Stepping Up To Save Surf Spots From Neo-Colonial Exploitation by Non-Surfing Capitalist Kooks
Q: But do you think it would be better if surfers own the land? Surfers own the waves?
Piter explains that collective ownership by surfers could help block predatory investments, ensure funds stay in local communities, and maintain cultural integrity, though the practicalities (money, logistics, governance) are complex. He advocates forming collectives to buy land near world-class breaks and using a portion of profits for community projects and environmental protection.
Blitzed: GOAT GOES MONDO GOD TIER as Pro Surfing Delivers Unhinged Madness on Day of Days at Demonic Chopes!
Q: What does this day mean for the race to the world title?
The day amplified the narrative that a single dominant performance can redefine the title chase, potentially reshaping strategies for upcoming heats as the field recalibrates around who can consistently handle the most treacherous conditions.
Blitzed: GOAT GOES MONDO GOD TIER as Pro Surfing Delivers Unhinged Madness on Day of Days at Demonic Chopes!
Q: What made Goat's heat so special and so difficult to replicate?
Goat's heat was characterized by an almost flawless mix of line choice, rail control, and fearless risk-taking under extreme reef conditions, culminating in multiple near-perfect scores and a demonstration of how mastering speed and positioning can turn a high-risk day into a celebration of skill.
Bonsoy Blitzed: Youngest Ever Rip Curl Cup Padang Winner, Westen Hirst, On Defending his Title, Lakey Peak Lineage, Doing It for His Late Great Father, and Surfing for the Gods
Q: What makes Padang Cup and Lakey Peak so special to you, and how does growing up at Lakey Peak shape your approach to big waves?
Growing up at Lakey Peak feels like being in a big family; the crew pushes each other daily, and the heavy, north-of-six-foot conditions demand preparation, big boards, and respect for the ocean's power.
