Fantastic podcast, overall, and the brothers’ show The Hold Down is really fun, also. Been a listener for years (ex-pat in the U.S. from Warriewood) and one of the better aspects is they’re not beholden to the WSL, so it’s “pure, tour nerdism, core lords,” live shows and some important, albeit usually devastating, world news stuff as well, five stars.

Core Lords: Cocaine and the Qualifying Series, Getting a Ten at Sunset STONED, Addiction, 12 Step Recovery, and One Last Crack at the Challenger Series w/ Beyrick De Vries
Q: What role did the 12 Steps play in your recovery, and how did they change your approach to life and surfing?
They provided a clear, actionable framework for self-examination and accountability, starting with admitting powerlessness over alcohol and drugs, moving through inventory and confession, to making amends and later practicing ongoing daily inventory and service. This structure helped the guest replace chaotic behavior with discipline, honesty, and intentional living, which then translated into improved relationships, stability in surfing, and a sustainable path forward.
