  • Dane!

The content is good and entertaining, especially with Dane lately. He is so relatable and interesting to listen to. Minus one for the explicit language, which you would do fine without.

  • How is it

people who basically talk for a living can’t get through a sentence without saying “like” one to four times? Is any effort ever made to try and curtail it, at least somewhat? It’s not a high bar to clear, yet… I subscribe to Stab Premium, so three stars total for their five stars content, but only visit the podcast rarely due to the “filler.” “He did about a billion turns on it” It was J-Bay, so maybe a dozen, tops? Ridiculous hyperbole is annoying, also.

Oh my god I’m not sure if I’m rooting for him because of MC’s net or just because he’s a heel of a nice guy. Either way. Hilarious bet and Deserving Surfer. (MC don’t quit even if you lose.)

  • Great podcast

Great poddy, the gambling talk throws me off slightly as a grom, but the insight into the WSL events is great. Love to listen tho.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why JJF Should Return In 2027
Q: Does the new qualification system benefit CT surfers overall?
The hosts argue it is worse for CT surfers because the change reduces the number of CT qualifiers per nation and shifts emphasis to ISA World Games, making it harder for top CT athletes to secure Olympic spots, while potentially benefiting smaller nations and ISA surfers.
A Wildcard May Just Win In Tahiti
Q: How do you think CT surfers will fare against Challenger series competitors in Tahiti?
The hosts argue that CT surfers have advantages but that the Challenger field can force intense early pressure, possibly leveling competition and creating opportunities for upsets depending on wave conditions and heat draw.
Jamie O’Brien Doesn’t Believe Pro Surfers Are Core | StabMic Ep. 25
Q: What model are you writing out there and what makes it different from traditional boards?
We're using our 8-0 regulator or 9-0 regulator with future fin systems. The boards are thicker, which helps reduce the drop and allows you to set your line earlier, making the tube more challenging but the entry easier.
Why Surf Films Will Never Win An Oscar | StabMic Ep. 22
Q: If you were starting now with a budget to make a surf film, what would you do?
Focus on storytelling and the lived experiences of surfers, using personal passion to guide creative decisions rather than chasing a strict formula or trends.
The Spectacular Vindication Of Dan Mann | StabMic Ep. 20
Q: Why does Dan think EPS/epoxy holds advantages over PU, and what's the future of PU in 50 years?
Dan argues that EPS/epoxy offers more controllable weight, better repeatability, and the opportunity to push design boundaries, whereas PU is harder to optimize and less predictable. He believes PU will still exist but will be joined by many other materials; in fifty years, there will be a wider range of options and ongoing budget-driven R&D that will shape adoption.
