Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Coma at 14: Learning to Walk, Talk, and Trust Yourself Again
Q: Is it easy or hard to find silver linings in such a traumatic experience, looking back from where you are now?
From my current perspective, it's possible to see silver linings because the work I did to recover and the steps I took to help others created a meaningful, lasting impact on my life and on the people I now serve.
Control: What the NICU Took and What It Gave Back
Q: What changed in your personal relationships as a result?
I developed deeper connections with my wife and others who could provide real support. I also learned to prune relationships that didn't serve the new direction of my life, while expanding my network with people who shared similar experiences and values.
Control: What the NICU Took and What It Gave Back
Q: How did the NICU experience affect your sense of control and risk?
The NICU made me confront the truth that I cannot control everything, especially life-and-death moments with a newborn. This led me to reframe risk as a necessary step toward meaningful outcomes for my family and career, rather than something to fear.
Control: What the NICU Took and What It Gave Back
Q: What was the turning point that pushed you toward entrepreneurship?
After the first child's NICU stay and the overwhelming feeling of not being able to control every outcome, I realized I needed to create a life that could accommodate uncertainty and still serve my family. That realization, paired with the second pregnancy and a professional setback, pushed me to leave my job and start my own practice.
Family Secrets: When the Truth You Always Sensed Finally Has a Name
Q: What role does storytelling play in your healing and in helping others?
Storytelling is a protective and liberating practice; it normalizes pain, reduces shame, and builds a community where people feel seen and supported in their own healing journeys.
