  • Daily Dose of Sanity

Although I no longer live in the DC area, Kevin and Tom consistently keep me informed of our DC sports triumphs and transgressions every day, with a healthy dose of flavor

  • Competition at kicker

I just watched my second DC defenders game. In the first game, our kicker converted a four point field goal. He hasn’t missed yet tonight. I think he would look good in a commanders uniform.

  • Boozer / Avdija

2 guys you've talked about - Avdija a good pro comp for Boozer - does everything well but explosively challenged. Not top 5 NBA players but good value even at #2/#3 if you don't think generational player is there. Boozer ceiling could be Tatum (similarly limited in college). Floor is his Dad Carlos.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Wizards Take Dybantsa; Schefter On Aiyuk
Q: After AJ Dybantsa was picked, which other players did you consider as the top options and why?
We discussed Peterson and Boozer as contrast points, looking at ceiling and floor, to illustrate how the draft can be unpredictable and how different players might fit differently with the Wizards, depending on health, desire, and scheme.
JD5: "I'm Done Talking About Last Year"
Q: So tell me this story out of the 40 that will be the first when you update this in 10 years for the 50.
Dave Ungrady explains the rationale for prioritizing stories that highlight Bias's life and influence, including a focus on his on-court development and off-court legacy, and hints at forthcoming projects.
Wizards GM Will Dawkins
Q: How did the Wizards approach evaluating Dybantsa, and what aspects stood out beyond on-court ability?
The team stressed a comprehensive evaluation, including on-campus visits, interviews, and multiple departments assessing amateur and pro sides. They valued character, work ethic, curiosity, and how he fits with teammates and the environment, not just raw talent.
Wizards GM Will Dawkins
Q: AJ Dybantsa, why was he ultimately the Wizards' pick at No. 1 rather than Darren Peterson or Cam Boozer?
Dybantsa was viewed as having a higher floor and ceiling, better fit for the Wizards' needs, and a more certain long-term trajectory. The team believed his size, versatility, and two-way potential made him the safest, most impactful choice given the draft context and their environment.
Aiyuk's Angle
Q: What's the best way to handle Aiyuk's contract situation if Washington wants to pursue him?
A no-risk, prove-it deal with incentives and a medical/psych evaluation is favored, allowing Washington to renegotiate with minimal downside.
