I love the hosts and their casual “chats”. I feel like I’m sitting at their kitchen table. It’s now the first episode I turn to in my library of podcasts.

  • Great to sleep to

This is one of the most boring podcasts hosted by the most boring people imaginable. I save up the episodes to lull myself to sleep. No one cares about what boring people are cooking each other for dinner, but it is a sure fire cure for insomnia.

Elsy Dinvil on Spreading Joy Through Haitian Food
Q: Delaney from Seattle asks about caramelized onions and their best uses beyond a Seattle dog.
Elsy answers with multiple ideas: use on grilled cheese, in salads, grain bowls, and dips; she emphasizes the onion's versatility and suggests making large batches to use throughout the week.
Sara Bir On Foraging For Human Connection
Q: What is your signature dish or item you bring to potlucks that people always expect you to make?
Bir describes a Moroccan sweet potato salad with a green shirmoula and herbs, a colorful, crowd-pleasing dish that travels well and can be served at room temperature, illustrating how her foraging-informed cooking translates into practical, shareable food.
Sara Bir On Foraging For Human Connection
Q: Can you tell me about your latest project, your book Fruit Harvesting? What inspired you to write about gathering fruit?
Sara Bir shares how she first became hooked on wild and yard fruit, the joy of discovering pawpaws and quince, and how gathering fruit became a mindfulness practice and a shared, social activity rather than a solitary task. The project grew into Pocket Nature and a broader exploration of nature-inspired cooking and community.
Tamar Adler on Noticing What's Good
Q: Tamar, what was the impetus behind Feast on Your Life?
Tamar explains the book grew from a practical, therapeutic exercise—noting it started as one small project (noting beauty in the kitchen daily) and then expanded into a larger reflection on how cooking and gratitude can structure life.
Cynthia Nims: A Casual Culinary Chat About: Planning Social Gatherings.
Q: What tips do you have for easy entertaining when hosting new neighbors or a casual group?
She suggests make-ahead dishes, grazing platters, a pasta or lasagna main, a hot pot option for interactive cooking, and outsourcing non-food tasks like playlists to keep the gathering relaxed and enjoyable.
