  • Content Is Usually Good

The host sometimes asks some very ignorant questions such as asking why all the slaves weren’t freed immediately by the Emancipation Proclamation. He also mistakenly believes all Iowans are University of Iowa fans. However, the content is usually interesting and is always centered on Iowa.

  • Dumb Host

Justin does not have a firm grasp of the facts which leads to some very dumb discussions. For example, he asked why the Emancipation Proclamation didn’t free all the slaves, both in the Confederacy and Union, immediately. Another example is his inability to distinguish between former government officials and current officials. After the recent Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon hearings in Congress he asserted the United States Intelligence Community had confirmed extraterrestrial aliens were real a... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Exclusive sit down with Sarah Trone Garriott on faith and healthcare
Q: Why is Medicaid funding so central to the hospital and clinic closures you mention?
Because Medicaid reimbursement has not kept pace with the true cost of care for decades, leading providers to operate at a loss and forcing closures when financing shifts occur, especially with large policy changes like Medicaid cuts.
Zach Lahn on data center pusback, big ag meetings, and cancer accountability
Q: Would you consider banning Paraquat on day one if elected, and what is your stance on labeling and EPA guidance?
I would ban Paraquat if there is a product that should not be sold in Iowa, though Syngenta has announced ceasing global production. EPA guidance is important, but Iowa should also do its own research and potentially implement state-level safeguards and labels.
Zach Lahn on data center pusback, big ag meetings, and cancer accountability
Q: What are the meetings with big agricultural and tech groups about, and are they adversarial or conciliatory?
They are about negotiating fairer terms, paying a fair share, and shaping policies that support farmers while addressing concerns about consolidation and environmental impact; the approach is to push for antitrust actions where needed but also engage constructively with companies that are genuinely looking to operate in Iowa.
Lahn Pops, Feenstra Drops, but Can They Pound Sand? Kathie Obradovich of The Iowa Capital Dispatch explains
Q: What impact could Iowa caucus strategy and redistricting have on national politics?
Iowa's caucuses and redistricting affect national politics by shaping which candidates gain early momentum and grassroots support; the state's alignment often signals broader national trends and influences fundraising, endorsements, and media narratives.
Lahn Pops, Feenstra Drops, but Can They Pound Sand? Kathie Obradovich of The Iowa Capital Dispatch explains
Q: Has Zach Lane changed the talking points in the race, and could he win the nomination?
Lane has shifted the conversation by foregrounding water quality and soil quality, which moved those issues into focus; while he could rise to prominence, the general trend and polling still point to Feenstra as the frontrunner, though the race remains uncertain.
