  • Get to the point

What a complete waste of time. Where’s the promised content? It’s all ads and rambling personal stories.

  • Self entitled ads

The first 15 minutes of the podcast are all about ads and Melanie putting herself on a pedestal. The second part is shooting the breeze about nothing I care about there may be three minutes. Of true information about intermittent fasting. This podcast bites the dust. It was way better before with Jenn Stevens. I could listen to a podcast with her all day which I do, but this one would be better. Minus these host and add Jenn Stevens.

  • I can't stand Melanie's dry mouth sounds. Eat something! Or at least sip some calorie free water

Every time I try to listen to this podcast and this has been going on for years, starving herself Melanie has that horrible dry mouth striving for saliva sound that is so disgusting I can't listen to it for more than a second.

  • Best pairing so far!

I’ve been listening for a couple of years now and I think Barry and Melanie are the best pairing yet! They are both super nice and have a very good rapport. Their banter is often quite amusing and their topics and discussions are enlightening and entertaining. The part where they pick a restaurant and do virtual dining is very entertaining! Best cohost since Gin! Even slightly better, I think - I find myself chuckling often while in my car driving to and from work (which is the majority of my... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#479 - Intermittent Fasting and Sleep, Sugar Cravings and Binge Eating, Exogenous Ketone Benefits, Fasting During a Half Marathon, Cooling and Heating Resistant Starch, Personal Circadian Rhythms, And More!
Q: Did the study look at fasting versus exogenous ketones separately or together?
The hosts concluded that the study combined fasting and exogenous ketones, making it unclear whether fasting alone would replicate the effects.
#476 - Special Guest Frank Llosa, Exogenous Ketone Benefits, Ketone Supplement Myths, Hard Ketones: Alcohol-Free Buzz, Boosting Cognition & Athletic Performance, Becoming Keto-Adapted, Amplifying Caffeine, Measuring Ketones, Intermittent Fasting Tools, And More!
Q: Does taking exogenous ketones teach the body to produce its own ketones or become ketone-adapted?
The guest argues that exogenous ketones do not necessarily teach the body to produce ketones endogenously and that keto-adaptation typically comes from reduced carbohydrate intake and body fat utilization, though exogenous ketones can support mental clarity and energy in certain contexts.
#477 - Struggling To Change Your Eating Window, Safe Non Toxic Mattresses, Fasting Longevity Benefits, Over Fasting Problems, Does Gum Break The Fast, Artificial Sweetener Problems, And More!
Q: Does chewing gum break a fast even if it's zero calories, due to artificial sweeteners and the act of chewing?
Yes, chewing gum can disrupt a true fast because it can stimulate digestion and trigger a cephalic insulin response, and artificial sweeteners may affect gut signals and metabolism. For a strict fast, avoid gum; if you're new to fasting and gum helps you get through a difficult period, it can be acceptable temporarily, but the long-term goal is to reduce gum use and rely on alternatives like black coffee, sparkling water, or water with electrolytes.
#477 - Struggling To Change Your Eating Window, Safe Non Toxic Mattresses, Fasting Longevity Benefits, Over Fasting Problems, Does Gum Break The Fast, Artificial Sweetener Problems, And More!
Q: At certain times of the year, I'm unable to eat during my typical eating window and end up shifting it several hours later for a few months. Is it normal to struggle with changing the window?
Yes. Eating windows are tightly linked to circadian rhythms, and changing the window can feel like metabolic jet lag. Consistency helps, and you can shift the entire routine (not just the window) using things like morning light, possibly later evening light, and adjusting exercise to support the new rhythm. Over time the body adapts, so with gradual changes and strategies to signal your circadian rhythm, the transition becomes easier.
#474 - 4:3 Intermittent Fasting, Estrogen Detox, Fasting's Effects on Eating Behaviors and Appetite Hormones, Reducing Binge Eating, Tobacco And Fasting, Weight Loss Plateaus, Sexual Assault Awareness, And More!
Q: What should Bob do about his plateau, and what about tobacco use during fasting?
Acknowledge that plateaus are normal; suggest maintaining high protein, continuing fasting, optimizing recovery and sleep, and considering modest macro adjustments after a month if needed; discuss tobacco: nicotine is a stressor, quitting is ideal, chewing tobacco during fasting is not a clean fast, consider nicotine patches as a controlled alternative while working to quit.
