  • Great Support for the Spiritual Journey

Very supportive and encouraging show that helps us to understand God’s message of love in the world and how we can grow closer to him. My favorite moments are when a caller shares something from the heart, sometimes a very difficult situation, and without fail, Chuck and the priest will help the caller to understand that they are not alone and point them in the right direction on their journey in the spiritual life. By extension, we listeners learn more and find out that we are not alone and nee... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

English Literature - The Inner Life - March 10, 2026
Q: Richard, where would you suggest I start with George MacDonald?
Richard suggests starting with excerpts and drawings from his works, pointing to The Princess and the Golden Key as accessible entry points, and mentions the value of his sermons as hidden gems.
Liturgical Practices in Lent - The Inner Life - March 12, 2026
Q: What about Holy Saturday and the first Saturday obligation? Since there's no daytime Mass, how should one fulfill that obligation?
Attend the Easter Vigil, which is the high point of the liturgical year; it can start in the evening and fulfills the obligation, sometimes extending into the early hours of Sunday.
Liturgical Practices in Lent - The Inner Life - March 12, 2026
Q: Good Friday this year has no Mass and falls on the first Friday of the month. How should one fulfill the first Friday obligation?
The obligation can be satisfied by participating in the Good Friday liturgy and receiving Holy Communion there, even though it is not a Mass, so Holy Communion is distributed.
Liturgical Practices in Lent - The Inner Life - March 12, 2026
Q: I was just wondering, for me, I'm actually not a part of the Catholic faith, but I would absolutely love to attend a Mass and just see what Mass during Lent would be like. What should I expect in going into Mass?
Expect a somber, more focused liturgy with colors, vestments, and prayers that emphasize penance and preparation for Easter; the Gloria and Alleluia are toned down or omitted, and the readings focus on repentance and baptism preparation.
Self Denial - The Inner Life - March 11, 2026
Q: How would you define self-denial in a practical Lent context?
It's reordering desires toward love of God and neighbor, balancing freedom with restraint so that passions don't govern us, and using discipline to cultivate virtue.
