  • As this podcast is provided by two news organizations, I would have hoped to see more balanced discussions from the hosts and guests. Alas, that is not the case. The terminology used is very biased, calling abortion "reproductive rights" (I'm sure they would object to using the term "pre-born baby killing as biased"), using ultra-conservative (and not the opposite ultra-progressive - which the hosts and guests seem to be) and many other examples of biased terminology. Please provide more balance... more

  • Essential Guide to Arizona Politics

Ignore the whack jobs with their crazy conspiracy ax grinding (blame it on the Arizona sun—summers here drive everyone a little crazy!) This podcast has done so much to acquaint me with the landscape of the state’s politics and the issues unique to where we live. I feel much better informed since subscribing.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Outspoken: Meet the Revolution's artists, spies and other unheralded patriots
Q: Do you think liberty and equality have evolved since those early days?
Yes, the ideas have broadened significantly beyond the original vision, though not without resistance, and the expansion has depended on ongoing struggles by radicals, women, and enslaved people.
Outspoken: Meet the Revolution's artists, spies and other unheralded patriots
Q: How does Patience Wright's work redefine what a patriot could be during the Revolution?
Wright demonstrated that political action could be conducted through cultural production, intelligence gathering, and international networks, way beyond the usual military or political channels.
Outspoken: Meet the Revolution's artists, spies and other unheralded patriots
Q: So tell us about the book and what inspired you to write it.
The book foregrounds people who lived in London or were otherwise excluded from traditional founding narratives—women, people of color, enslaved and immigrant individuals—and shows how they used art, espionage, and activism to influence the Revolution.
Outspoken: Why the Declaration and individual liberty remains essential
Q: How do you reconcile the Declaration's lofty language with the reality of political compromises like slavery in Jefferson's draft?
The guest explains that Jefferson's draft attempted a bold, aspirational statement about universal rights, and while earlier drafts included condemnations of slavery, political realities forced compromise. Yet the episode notes that these tensions ultimately propelled abolitionist movements and ongoing efforts to realize the Declaration's promises.
How Trump's economy is affecting Arizona's tourism
Q: What would you like to see the Federal Reserve Board do in light of ongoing inflation and policy missteps?
A more balanced approach with economists on the board, avoiding prolonged zero rates, to prevent bank failures and ensure inflation is tackled with actual evidence rather than political projections.
