  • Wonderful podcast!

I’ve never left a review before but your podcast deserves to be heard by as many people as possible so here I am!

Han is a warm and thoughtful host. Through her own experience and that of her guests, she’s able to present a broad and diverse range of experiences - some I relate to, some I didn’t know much about (for example the discussion of India culture in the Diwali episode) so it’s really great to have the opportunity to learn. Thanks for creating such an engaging, unique, mind-opening and a... more

Navigating Exercise During Eating Disorder Recovery with Dr Amit Mistry
Q: How do you navigate the tension between stopping excessive exercise on inpatient wards and allowing some activity when safe?
We prioritize physical health first, use a multi-disciplinary team, and apply a staged plan that gradually increases activity as patients regain weight and medical stability, while addressing the underlying eating disorder with therapy and social supports.
Navigating Exercise During Eating Disorder Recovery with Dr Amit Mistry
Q: So it's absolutely lovely to have you, Amit. How did you get into this line of work and how do you view exercise as a tool in recovery?
I bring a sports psychiatry background and experience with both inpatient wards and elite athletes, and I see exercise as a powerful tool when balanced with safety, nutrition, and psychological support. It's about graded exposure, understanding the why behind activity, and ensuring rest and medical stability are in place.
New Research: The Suicide Risk Nobody Talks About in Eating Disorders with Dr Una Foye
Q: What are key takeaways about recovery and suicidality from the interviews?
Recovery can be a highly vulnerable phase where the patient loses coping mechanisms and support, which can elevate suicidality, and effective care requires holistic, ongoing support beyond weight restoration.
New Research: The Suicide Risk Nobody Talks About in Eating Disorders with Dr Una Foye
Q: Why is lived experience important in this kind of research?
Lived experience centers the people most affected, ensuring that interventions and guidelines are practical and ethically sound, and helps to break down stigma that has historically silenced discussions about suicide in the eating disorder community.
New Research: The Suicide Risk Nobody Talks About in Eating Disorders with Dr Una Foye
Q: Where did the idea for studying the link between suicide and eating disorders come from?
The team recognized that statistics are only the tip of the iceberg and that qualitative voices from lived experience had been missing, so they pursued a study to understand the nuanced experiences that contribute to suicidality in the context of eating disorders.
