  • #1 resource for coaches & athletes

This is probably my most listened to podcast, hardly missing any episodes. The knowledge I have gained from Maddie has been invaluable to my team, and my own training. I’ve been able to turnkey what I’ve learned to other coaches and encourage them to listen and follow. She is gold for what she’s giving to the community & our kids!

As a sports medicine physician who cares for many endurance athletes struggling with REDs, I found your interview with Elise Cranny to be pure gold! She is so eloquent in sharing her own experience and coming out stronger on the other side. A must listen for young endurance athletes. This episode puts into words the message I wish I could send to so many of my athletes.

Q&A With Maddie - 27
Q: What should I know about Reds recovery and fueling while dealing with low ferritin and an overstimulated nervous system?
Red-S recovery is multifaceted and often requires a care team including sports medicine and nutrition professionals. Key steps include addressing training load, ensuring adequate energy intake with three meals per day and fueling around workouts, incorporating rest days, reducing overall stress, and seeking mental health or sleep support as needed to lower nervous system overload.
28. Jessica Dorrington
Q: How should runners balance pregnancy, training, and recovery?
Energy needs shift across trimesters; training should be individualized based on biomechanics, sleep, nutrition, and overall health, with ongoing communication with healthcare providers to optimize outcomes for mother and baby.
28. Jessica Dorrington
Q: What are the signs that pelvic floor health might be affecting performance?
Musculoskeletal aches around the pelvis, leakage with exertion, pain with bowel movements or intercourse, and symptoms like abdominal or pelvic floor tightness can all indicate pelvic floor dysfunction that might benefit from PT.
28. Jessica Dorrington
Q: What is pelvic floor PT and why is it important for runners?
Pelvic floor PT focuses on the muscles that support the pelvis and core; when these muscles function well, runners gain improved load transfer, stability, and potentially reduced injury risk, as well as better bowel/bladder health and pelvic pain relief.
Q&A With Maddie - 26
Q: Do you have any advice on race weight?
There is no such thing as race weight. Weight on the scale is not a reliable predictor of performance, and chasing a lean weight can lead to under-fueling and performance decline. Weight reflects multiple factors like glycogen, hydration, and organ mass, and hormonal fluctuations can change water retention. The healthiest path is fueling adequately, training consistently, prioritizing sleep, and focusing on how you feel and perform rather than a number on the scale.
