  • Good if you like to listen to Devika

A little Devika goes a long way for me, but ok, I learn about movies

  • FC talks smack on PTA & Pynchon

It felt like almost no one in this episode about One battle after another, had a grasp of the movie or of Paul Thomas Anderson or of Thomas Pynchon. I used to read the FC magazine during its heyday regularly and I wrote & directed films for a couple of decades, got a degree in film production 35 years ago... this podcast often occurs as kind of an amateur hour. You could do better. It's very fly by night and intellectually quite lazy and sort of vapid.

Venice #6 The Voice of Hind Rajab is Art or Propaganda in ongoing war and because the film is presented at a Festival and endorsed by celebrities justifies a Review I appreciate the critics honest ambivalence

  • Long-Time Fan, High Holiday Listener

Film Comment is arguably the best at what it does. I used to listen religiously, though these days I’m more of a high-holiday listener (Cannes, Berlinale, etc.). Can’t go wrong with Devika, Clint, and the stellar rotation of guests.

  • Essential for every cinephile

I can’t find enough praise for Devika and Clint’s version of the Film Comment Podcast. Already one of the better ways to keep up with film festivals in the past, it has only improved since 2020 as it came under their control and branched further into the avant garde and documentary world, offering a sympathetic ear to liberatory ideas while avoiding any academic jargon and elitism.

Just one note that other listeners may be interested in— in a recent discussion on the film Grisgris, guest Malco... more

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Cannes 2026 #9: Breaking Borders at Cannes Docs
Q: How do you approach the tension between a colonial architectural system and the need to fund and promote Indigenous and Romani cinema?
We push for sovereignty and reflexivity, develop practical frameworks and funds (like the Indigenous screen offices and mutual networks), and pursue cross-border collaborations that empower communities to tell their own stories while navigating diverse funding sources.
Cannes 2026 #8, with Justin Chang, Tim Grierson, and Jessica Kiang
Q: What brings you to Cannes this year and what are you most excited about in the lineup?
Tim Grierson and Jessica Kiang discuss the star-studded lineup, their anticipation for Grisebach's The Dreamed Adventure, and the tension between festival programming and genre expectations, as well as the excitement around restorations like The Devils.
Cannes 2026 #8, with Justin Chang, Tim Grierson, and Jessica Kiang
Q: Hi, Justin. You want to mention one or two of the things you do?
Justin Chang talks about his work with The New Yorker and his role on the New York Film Festival Selection Committee, framing his perspective as both a writer and festival programmer.
Cannes 2026 #6, with Isabel Stevens and Neta Alexander
Q: Neta, do you want to start us off? Tell us what you thought.
Neta shares initial impressions of Fjord, highlighting its strong family drama, the intense courtroom dynamics, and the film's political ambiguity, while noting some areas that felt underdeveloped or overly symmetrical in its portrayal of liberal versus conservative forces.
Cannes 2026 #3, with Robert Daniels and Inney Prakash
Q: What did you think of Diary of a Chambermaid?
Robert and Inney praise Jude for his humane critique of power, noting the film's deft use of everyday moments and digital-age communication to reveal class dynamics, while also discussing its tonal balance of humor and social critique.
