  • Hmm

I used to love this podcast, and I still like what it’s trying to do, but I have to single out 2025’s Cannes coverage as reflecting a broader problem with the show the past few years… Devika is smart and a good writer. But she is very negative about each film in ways that are not well-considered/articulated. Essentially she nitpicks about strange, shallow things rather than being aesthetically/theoretically rigorous. The discussions are then contentious without actually saying anything substanti... more

    …the magazine and newsletter.

Pseudo cinematic semi-scholarly blather via podcast. See a film.

    In roundtable discussions, once a

speaker utters “like” ten times in a

sentence, I come to realize the generation gaps are widening.

Best of year roundups are fun, but ruined by having to listen through ludicrous laughter from the

    peanut gallery.

  • Amazing finds every year thanks to you

Absolutely love the podcast and cannot tell you how many times I have found some amazing films through listening. However - one complaint - and it’s a big one. They laugh as if something uproariously funny has been said. Let’s be clear you all are funny - but these laughs are so self centered and annoying almost to the... more

I love Film Comment and I love this podcast, even though I have to go back and listen to old festival episodes when I want to hear the critics’ opinions on a film that has just come into general release.
