  • Amazing for filmmakers

I absolutely love this podcast. I’ve been working in film since 2020 and had gone from BG to directing award winning films and always wanting to learn perspectives of each crew member and this gives you an intimate, in depth peekaboo at every department of film and what it takes to make a film but it also shows how different each person’s journey has been showing that anyone with a true love and passion can make it. It’s been incredibly inspiring for me.

Thank you so much and please keep doing w... more

CHRIS CARROLL - Assistant Director
Q: How do you approach starting a schedule when you don't have all locations nailed down yet?
You start early, read the script, build a baseline in Movie Magic, create scene strips, and then organize by location and day/night, adjusting as you lock in cast and locations to fit the budget.
LYDIA DEAN PILCHER - Producer / Director
Q: Can you explain the international financing model you used on Mississippi Masala and later projects, and why it was important for your work with Mira Nair?
International financing allows films to be funded through partnerships across borders, with pre-sales and equity from various regions, enabling creative control and diverse storytelling that might not fit traditional studio funding; this approach opened doors to more daring, globally resonant projects.
LYDIA DEAN PILCHER - Producer / Director
Q: How did you navigate moving from production management to producing, and what differences did you observe between the two roles?
Production management is highly technical and deal-focused, handling scheduling and budgets, while producing is broader, involving creative collaboration, financing, and shepherding a project from concept through release; successful producers often blend both skill sets and understand the needs of every department.
NICK KAZAN - Writer
Q: So how do you approach adapting real people and events in films like Patty Hearst or Reversal of Fortune?
He discusses the balance between factual basis and dramatic interpretation, noting how input from real figures can shape but not dictate the final portrayal, and recounts working with Dershowitz on Reversal of Fortune to add human flaws.
NICK KAZAN - Writer
Q: What makes a good writer?
Nick replies that obsession and total concentration define a good writer, along with a relentless drive to pursue stories that inspire him, even if they aren't always commercially successful.
