  • Excellent podcast, terrible sound

These interviews are thoughtful and inspiring but you guys have a serious problem with your audio normalizing. The ads will blast my ears out and then the interviews will be so quiet I can’t hear it. And between host and interviewees there will often be large discrepancies as well. I understand their audio is likely coming from different sources but it can be leveled it out. There’s just no excuse for it to be this bad in the year of our lord 2023–good audio can be had cheaply and easily. And pe... more

  • Hardly any female guests. Why?

If I could give no stars, I’d give no stars.

And don’t get me wrong: I think Indiewire Tool Kit is one of the best shows on the scene.

BUT I’m furious to see that despite all those discussions of recent years, there is hardly any women being invited to the show.

Where are all the amazing, successful, eloquent women directors?

    This really needs to change.

    It needs to be 50/50.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

'Drop' Director Christopher Landon
Q: What was the approach in terms of using sound design? What did you want sound to do for you in the movie?
The sound design was aimed to create a subjective perspective, putting viewers in Violet's head using background sounds to elevate tension.
'Drop' Director Christopher Landon
Q: Did you look at any other movies for inspiration?
I avoid that, like The Plague; I'm more worried about cribbing or stealing ideas rather than getting inspiration from them.
'Drop' Director Christopher Landon
Q: How did you land on your two actors that were the two leads?
It was crucial to find actors with incredible range due to the emotional weight of the film, and Megan Fahey stood out for her grounded and charming presence.
'Drop' Director Christopher Landon
Q: What were some of the things the three of you worked on together?
The character Violet's past and struggles were developed more, and there were significant adjustments made to another character, Henry, to better involve him in the plot.
'Novocaine' Directors Dan Berk & Robert Olsen
Q: What principles guided how you wanted to stage the action sequences?
They aimed for a mix of comedy and stakes, basing their action style on how someone who doesn't know how to fight would behave.
