  • Incredibly clear and motivating!

I started listening to this podcast a week ago and am working my way back through old episodes too. I have been IFing for a long time, but in the last year dealing with work stress had a much longer eating window and the weight had crept back on. More than anything hearing the technical details of the benefits of fasting provided in this podcast in such an easy to understand way has motivated me to clean up my act, with both a longer window and better food choices for me. I’m currently about an... more

  • Great podcast

I’m a nutrition and fasting coach myself, and I’m always looking for inspiration and ways to keep learning. I found your podcast, and really enjoy the fact driven approach.

Hey, coaches also need a little extra motivation from time to time too.

I have a question I would love to hear your thoughts on regarding episode 296.

Where the TRE group didn’t gain as much strength, my thought is; what if they tested the strength after a refeed? I’m willing to bet that the results would be much closer. Wh... more

Episode 330 release coincided with my 3rd Fastiversary so it really rang true for me. Thanks for the continuously great info and advice. I couldn’t have done it without you guys guiding the way. Each episode is a building block that makes up the foundation of my fasting lifestyle providing education and motivation. I have kept off over 50lbs, increased muscle mass and have better metabolic health than I did when I was in my 20’s, which is 3 decades ago. People always ask me what did I do. When I... more

  • Starting from epi 1

I started from episode 1. Lots of great info, truly, but I’m starting to get a little over the toot tooting of these men and their perfect life. I can’t tell them apart, but one fellow just talks about his perfect schedule and has been waxing long about stuff that isn’t IF-related. It’s more about life and work-life balance. It’s starting to feel like a self-help program rather than the science of IF. Maybe they’re struggling about content? I’m hoping they get back on topic rather than life hack... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 339 - Fasting Q&A: Seltzer Water, Extended Fasts & Carb Cravings | Listener Questions on Weight Loss | Resistance Training for Postmenopausal Women | Carb Cycling Explained | New Fasting Persona Quiz!
Q: What are your thoughts on seltzer waters during the fast?
They're fine to use to get through longer fasting periods as long as they don't trigger hunger or cravings; the key is to monitor whether flavorings or drinks increase appetite, and keep it aligned with your hunger and satiety signals.
Ep. 334 - Fasting Q&A: Acid Reflux While Fasting | How Long to Lose Weight with IF | Protein Shakes & Fasting | Fasting Plateaus & Women's Hormones | Fasting Hydration Tips
Q: Candice asks about rapid weight loss on extended fasting and how to approach another large fast near a wedding; how to manage plateaus and re‑feeding after big fasts.
Very large fasts can trigger a winter‑is‑coming response, potentially complicating weight loss when followed by indulgent meals. The guidance is to ease expectations, maintain consistency, and use shorter, nutrient‑dense windows with adequate protein. Plateaus are normal; focus on non‑scale victories and adjust timing to optimize insulin sensitivity and energy needs, aiming for a sustainable rhythm rather than extreme rapid losses.
Ep. 334 - Fasting Q&A: Acid Reflux While Fasting | How Long to Lose Weight with IF | Protein Shakes & Fasting | Fasting Plateaus & Women's Hormones | Fasting Hydration Tips
Q: A truck driver asks about frequent urination during fasting and how to manage hydration and electrolytes on long drives.
Frequent urination is common when glycogen stores are depleted and insulin is lower. Hydrating with electrolytes (not just water) helps retain fluids and maintain balance. Front‑load or back‑load hydration around stops, use minerals like Element or Baja Gold, and avoid overhydrating right before long drives.
Ep. 334 - Fasting Q&A: Acid Reflux While Fasting | How Long to Lose Weight with IF | Protein Shakes & Fasting | Fasting Plateaus & Women's Hormones | Fasting Hydration Tips
Q: Is a protein drink acceptable during a 16‑hour fast, and how should it be used given different goals (muscle gain vs fat loss)?
Strict fasting would say no, but protein can be prioritized in the eating window to support muscle growth and workout recovery. Depending on goals and appetite, some people incorporate a protein drink around workouts or break their fast with a protein‑paced meal, understanding that this technically breaks the fast and may affect fat loss speed.
Ep. 334 - Fasting Q&A: Acid Reflux While Fasting | How Long to Lose Weight with IF | Protein Shakes & Fasting | Fasting Plateaus & Women's Hormones | Fasting Hydration Tips
Q: How long after starting a 16–20 hour daily fast does weight loss typically begin, and what factors influence it?
Weight loss often starts to become noticeable around the 20–21 hour mark, with more consistent fat loss emerging as you maintain an OMAD window and optimize factors like sleep, meal timing, and food choices. Individual starting points vary, and the metabolic improvements can precede visible scale changes.
