  • This Show used to be good…

Actually used to be really good! Then since, FAST- talking episodes- then ten episodes of dumb dudes. Advertisements galore. This guy has Lost the plot and me as a listener! Hopes you would have returned to the slow and deliberate execution of a worthy story. Also it is much easier to speed up than slow down the cadence of speech. Podcasts selling off and out to overlords… R.I.P. to Matt and other FORMERLY creative podcasters. Did they buy you a lobster dinner before you….

  • Polar overload

I love this podcast and have listened to every episode. But I think I can go the rest of my life without ever hearing about another polar expedition ever again.

  • Well rounded history

I’ve just finished listening to the Magellan series and it’s a fabulous account of the voyage and beyond. I’ve read Laurence Bergreen years ago and simply wanted a refresh of the history and this was perfect. Different viewpoints and possibilities are explored which gives a rounded and thorough picture of the story. I’ll be listening to many more of these excellent podcasts.

I’ve always considered myself a history junkie. But now understand what a novice I am

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Monet Izabeth - the first American woman to ski solo, and unsupported, to the South Pole
Q: What did you have to do to get ready for this expedition?
Preparation involved three years of physical and mental training, working with a polar expedition coach, practicing sled-pulling with tires to simulate hauling a load, completing ALE-required expeditions (two solo weeks and one guided three-week trip like Greenland), and securing funding plus gear and logistics for Antarctica.
Monet Izabeth - the first American woman to ski solo, and unsupported, to the South Pole
Q: Explain exactly what it means to ski solo and unsupported to the South Pole.
Monet explains that solo and unsupported means traveling completely alone, hauling all gear (two sleds) without resupply, on the Hercules Inlet route, totaling about 700 miles, with no outside support once the journey began. She emphasizes self-reliance, pre-planned food, and training to endure extreme conditions.
Interview with Norwegian Polar Explorer Erling Kagge
Q: What is the relationship between exploration and silence?
Silence is essential for knowing oneself, while noise is about running away from yourself.
Interview with Norwegian Polar Explorer Erling Kagge
Q: What surprised you about the North Pole?
It was actually not as much solid ice as I expected; it was more an ocean covered by ice.
Interview with Norwegian Polar Explorer Erling Kagge
Q: Why did you choose to explore the poles?
As a Norwegian, I'm used to the cold and snow, and it was important for our history. We wanted to do something extreme and be the first.
