  • A masterclass is translating science

As a clinician (who listens only to medical/health podcasts), what I appreciate most about Dr. Perlmutter is not just what he knows (he’s very sharp!), but *how* he communicates it. He has an uncanny ability to translate and summarize complex, dense research in a way that makes it accessible, but not overly simplistic. A rare skill set!

  • Solid information

One of my favorite podcasts because it’s so packed with great information.

The only downside is it’s always difficult to listen to because of the poor sound quality

  • Poor souls quality

Great topics, however I can not tolerate listening to most episodes because of the poor sound quality. The host sounds like he’s talking in a tin cave.

Carbs For Exercise? Let’s Challenge This Idea with Dr. Andrew Koutnik | E211
Q: First, how did we get into the mindset that carbs are necessary for exercise performance?
The traditional view emerged from early glycogen studies and later work showing carbohydrate oxidation increases with intake, but the speaker notes that these studies often conflated glycogen with blood glucose and did not account for brain energy metabolism, leading to an overemphasis on carbs as the sole fuel source.
Why Exercise May Be More Powerful Than Any Alzheimer’s Drug with Dr. Majid Fotuhi | E210
Q: What is the one piece of advice or a recommendation for a habit that could help improve memory right now?
Cultivate a growth mindset first—believe you can improve—then add concrete habits like consistent sleep, exercise, and cognitive challenges to strengthen memory and overall brain health.
PTSD - The Powerfully Therapeutic Role of Hyperbaric Oxygen - with Dr. Mohammed Elamir | E205
Q: What about the actual rating of these individuals on the scale?
The treatment group demonstrated significant improvements in PTSD scores with some no longer meeting the criteria for PTSD after the therapy.
PTSD - The Powerfully Therapeutic Role of Hyperbaric Oxygen - with Dr. Mohammed Elamir | E205
Q: So, why would anyone even consider that in PTSD, hyperbaric oxygen therapy might be effective?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy treats wounds in the brain, similar to how it treats physical wounds, by promoting healing through neurogenesis and related physiological changes.
Science of Ketosis: Regain Your Metabolic Health & Age Backwards - with Dr. Dominic D’Agostino | EP 201
Q: How much protein should individuals consume to maintain a ketogenic state?
D'Agostino suggests that protein requirements will vary by activity level and age, advocating for higher protein to mitigate muscle loss while considering the effects on ketosis.
