  • Questionable advice/Too many ads

Dr. Gundry is clearly an educated, board-certified physician, and I respect the training and work that takes. That said, medical credentials don’t automatically mean someone’s nutrition advice is spot on 100% of the time. His stance on avoiding beans, in particular, seems more extreme than what a lot of mainstream nutrition research supports.

I also found the amount of advertising distracting. It gives the impression that monetization is a major focus. To be fair, he’s hardly alone there—plenty... more

  • Heart-surgeon’s “natural-path” advice that actually works

Steven Gundry’s a doctor I’ll listen to over and over again. His ongoing problem solving skills with current patients and expansive history as a surgeon and university researcher have lifted my health tremendously in the last few years as someone who prefers natural solutions & grew up becoming among doctors but never saw anything special about their advice even if they were smart + rich. I am continually grateful for his free gift of online information and the tools he gives us to control our h... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Are You Drinking TOO Much Water? The Hidden Danger of Overhydration | EP 415.A
Q: What about B12 forms and mutations in methylation pathways?
For those with MTHFR mutations, methyl B12 is often required to be effective, while others may tolerate other forms; if methyl B12 causes issues, small adjustments with other B vitamins can help, and the active form tends to be most effective for homocysteine management.
Are You Drinking TOO Much Water? The Hidden Danger of Overhydration | EP 415.A
Q: Are some types of B12 toxic or have negative side effects?
B12 toxicity is not commonly seen; most people can take higher amounts safely, but some may have issues with methyl B12 if they carry certain MTHFR mutations, in which case using methyl B12 is generally better and sometimes blunted with a touch of niacinamide.
The Skin-Gut Connection: What a French Cosmetics Insider Wants You to Know | EP 411
Q: Talk to us about the French and gut health?
Francois Hermann explains that French eating patterns tend to be less snacking-driven than the typical American pattern, with a focus on meals and balanced portions; improving gut health is increasingly seen as central to skin health in France, and people are seeking concrete protocols rather than vague advice.
Beef Tallow vs. Olive Oil: The Truth About Cooking Fats (From a Heart Surgeon) | EP 409.A
Q: What is the practical takeaway when choosing between beef tallow and olive oil for cooking?
Olive oil is generally preferred for its polyphenols, but beef tallow isn't inherently evil; a nuanced view considers sourcing (grass-fed), overall diet, and the cooking context.
Why a Daily Shot of Olive Oil Could Be Your Best Health Habit Yet | EP 410
Q: Is broccoli sprouts more potent than broccoli for health benefits?
Yes. Broccoli sprouts are especially potent because sulforaphane was first discovered in broccoli sprouts, and the compound has been used in supplemental forms and even in tea to deliver similar benefits, particularly for certain health conditions like prostate health.
