Repeatedly falls short as a credible thinker due to ideological blindness
Good content, high intellectual engagement on important topics. Sometimes gets a bit trivial (does anyone want to know that the host gets high and goes to leather events etc?) and Andrew’s interview style isn’t just often hectoring it verges often on bullying (see Eli Lake episode). Sometimes suspiciously aggressive on immigration (why the fixation on “non-white immigration?) and appears to be stridently anti-Israel.
Found this podcast by way of the Eli Lake episode on Iran. Subscribed. Made it halfway through the first episode and I’m unsubscribed again. Disappointed to here Andrew Sullivan, who I have taken to be deserving of respect, peddle the same garbage conspiracies about Israeli control of US policy as the lunatics on the far left and right.
Wanted to listen to the Eli Lake convo but he could barely get a thought out without Sullivan interrupting
… I’d enjoy this podcast much more if Andrew could ask shorter, single idea questions and interrupt his guests a little less. Take a leaf out of Tyler Cowen’s book?

A sharp, policy-forward interview series that centers on big ideas in liberalism, democracy, and culture, often threading through immigration, economics, free speech, and the media landscape. Guests range from politicians and journalists to historians and scientists, with conversations that push for careful reasoning, historical context, and nuanced moral questions. Noteworthy is the penchant for cross-cutting perspectives—from centrist and liberal traditions to conservative critique—delivered through long-form, thoughtful dialogue that frequently engages with current events, policy trade-offs, and the responsibilities of public discourse. The show often blends personal narratives with rigorous analysis, producing discussions that feel both... more
