In the 1980s and 90s, Satan and his followers were accused of brainwashing children, sacrificing babies, and infiltrating North American society on a massive scale — yet these thousands of alleged Satanists were nowhere to be found. Even so, the narrative became embedded in our cultural memory, warping everything it touched — including the lives of innocent people.. And it never quite died out.

  • Good Show

I’m enjoying the show. It lacks self-awareness. It’s doing and claiming what it is exposing without ever pausing to consider the irony. Well done and compelling.

  • Political

Was a great podcast but it’s so hard for them to stay away from politics. All we want is a podcast about the Title but they have a hard time not throwing in political jabs here and there! We get it you have TDS, but that’s not what we’re here for, just stay on topic. It’s always white man Bad, gay lesbian good! This view point is getting old. And before anyone thinks I’m a white male. Sorry but I’m a Native American Reservation boy, and this old song and dance about White man is getting old!!!

  • Phenomenal!

I have enjoyed much media and scoured many resources about the satanic panic. There was new information here that I had not yet known. I found this podcast and format to be super engaging with a wide range of interesting guests. 5/5!

  • Really wanted to…

Listen and like this podcast, but despite the interesting premise, I couldn’t get past Sarah Marshall’s dismissive and sardonic tone of voice. I’m a feminist who came of age in the 80s and even I got tired of the man-, Christian-, Regan-hating rhetoric. (She really doesn’t like Ronald). Interviewees were good, but again overshadowed by the attitude. Too bad.

One more helping, for good measure: Satan (Taylor’s Version)

A moral panic is an exaggerated threat that distracts from real societal issues, often serving to scapegoat marginalized groups.

Q: How in 2012 were they targeted? What was the media and the police actually accusing them of?
They were accused of undermining Islamic values, promoting atheism, and their concerts were seen as satanic rituals.
