I saw a link to this podcast on another mom’s instagram and I said that this may be the podcast I didn’t know I needed. I was right. Wow. I just listened to Sandra talk about her son who went through treatment during Covid and it made me remember and process things I tucked away out of survival and being the best mom to my son. He was diagnosed at age 4 with ALL May of 2020 which was 5 months after my sister passed from Ewing Sarcoma. I was a mess. My son is now 10 and doing well but the process... more

  • Articulating what I can’t… yet

Being a cancer mom in a country where you don’t speak the local language is a uniquely isolating experience in what is already a lonely path to travel. So happy to tune into this show which feels like necessary therapy and community and being held.

Naturopath Dr. Jackie on Integrating Alternative Practices into her Son's High Risk ALL Treatment
Q: Are you comfortable sharing some of the other treatments and therapies you brought into Spencer's cancer treatment?
We settled into a manageable routine with several modalities that felt aligned, including castor oil packs, detox baths, essential oils, mushrooms like reishi and turkey tail, and gentle drainage remedies, all used in a way that didn't overburden him or require forceful administration.
Naturopath Dr. Jackie on Integrating Alternative Practices into her Son's High Risk ALL Treatment
Q: Before we talk about the team that you put together, tell me a little bit about how your oncology team received the supplemental therapies, and did you feel dismissed?
The oncologist was open-minded and we kept in contact with her, though there were occasional eye rolls from staff. I chose what to share and stayed confident, believing these modalities could be beneficial while not compromising the standard treatment.
Support for Bereaved Parents - The Importance of Peer Connection, How Partners Grieve Differently & How Community Can Help Carry the Weight with Zach’s Bridge Founders Jenn and Jon Wall
Q: What makes Zach's Bridge different from traditional bereavement support?
It pairs bereaved families with peer mentors who have lived through similar experiences, focusing on shared language and practical, compassionate connection rather than clinical or therapeutic channels.
When the Doctor Becomes the Parent: Pediatrician & Cancer Mom Raksha on Parent Intuition, Trust, & Teamwork
Q: What did medical knowledge feel like when facing your own child's illness, compared to treating others' patients?
Knowledge could be power, but it also triggered fast, worst-case scenarios and a shift in perspective, making the clinician-parent boundary feel both necessary and permeable.
Kiddo, This is Going to Be Hard - AYA Support Through Treatment with Survivor Mel Austin
Q: How did you experience the moment of shaving your head and the surrounding support?
It felt bittersweet and incredibly real; despite the support, I cried in private afterward because I was grieving the loss of my long hair and the identity that came with it, even as my family made it a shared moment of love.
